My raise sucked

OutHouse

Lifer
finally got my 6 year review last week. I received high marks from both my boss and the VP of IT. however due to a new HR policy change in March I didnt get much of merit increase.

the policy is that if you are in the top 1/3 of your payscale you get a lower % of a merit increase, and if you are in the lower 2/3 of your payscale you get a higher % of a merit increase. the reason is they want to make the amount of money each group to be about the same for raises.

so me being just within the top 1/3 of my pay scale by about 100 bucks, i got a lousy 2.5% merit raise. :| the max for the company is 5% and that is what i was expecting.

You didn't even keep up with inflation (~ 3.5%), so practically you have less buying power than this time last year.

I got 4.3% this year, which I still think is a pretty crappy raise.

:lips:

aren't you a little glad that you are ranting about getting a sh!tty raise instead of not having a job? 🙂

you need to find out from your manager what it will take to get a promotion that moves you to a higher pay scale so you don't run into the upper end of your pay scale range...we have the same policy at my current job...

Did you know this policy before you got your review? Did you discuss it with your mananger before your review?

I got 4% which was one of the highest raises that they gave out this year. They don't care about the working man anymore. They just want a suit to do the job for the cheapest amount possible.

You all should be happy.

Normal raise at this job this year was 1.5-2%

I got 1.5 as did most everyone in my group.

YAY?

yes i am happy that i have a job
no room to advance, all positions are filled and no plans to make up any new positions.
no i did not know about the policy change, and my boss told me to keep it quiet during my review.

wonder how legal it is to change salary administration rules like that and not disclose the new rules to the employees? that doesn't sound right, but then again, I'm not a lawyer...

Kinda sucks what we have to do now following our new parent company's rules. Before raises were whatever management felt was appropriate.
Now they're given a pool for all of IT, enough to give everyone a 3% raise. They can give people a bigger raise, but only by giving someone else less of a raise.

The only way to get GOOD raises is to start a new job. Proven time and time again.

Even when I got a promotion, it was just about a 5% raise. 🙁 I shouldn't complain though... tough times we live in. I watched people around me get canned.

I love small companies - got a pretty hefty one this year.

A year ago, I worked at a big firm where they gave me like 3-3.5% each year or some crap like that. What fcking turds.

or i could screw with marta stewards home arrest schedule.

quit.

im pissed just like you are OP. I worked my ass off last year, March I got a stinking 2% raise and then they lowered my boss's rating of "great" to "average" just because a "great" rating cant be given a 2% raise. im like so give me a bigger stinking raise!
now i got another offer for another company for basically 12k more. i cant wait to give my 2 weeks and they'll be hard pressed to find a replacement like me. im just waiting for anther company and see if they have a better offer than the one i already have...

again, companies that take you for granted should be taught a lesson. I work great with my boss and my department and i hate to see them suffer with me gone (im sure they will since no one knows what i do... like neffing on ATOT) but think of it this way, when they need to lay people off, they don't think twice about you. as great friends as they have been, you sometimes have to think for yourself and not for the company. corporate loyalty only lasts as long as you give your employees a raise and promotion they deserve.
