My PSU made stuff explode WHY?!?

Hey people, Im lucky to be typing this cuz my nice shiny new antec 430 Truepower PSU made one hell of a bang when i turned the power on. I was near the pc at the time so i dived for cover 🙁 then turned the power off and stayed the heck away from it for a few mins, luckily the fuse blew and i noticed it was set to 115V at the back so i set it to 240V instead and replaced the fuse, but this time i was prepared as i sat behind a wall and reached for the plug so i didnt have to dive away from the comp 🙂 and despite the new setting it still made a bang and in addition to that the fusebox downstairs shut off power to the top half of the house.
I suspect that this PSU is american as i noticed that Antec made seperate PSU's for Europe (im in the UK) . Is this the case because im just guessing?? (it came with a power connector that looks american in design, it has 3 sockets but dosent fit in our plugs)

It does sounds like you got an american PSU. You might need an adapter to make it work for your outlets and make sure to set it at 240v.

Your poor Antec PSU was thinking it was going to receive a 115v line of electricity, but instead it received 240v. Because it was set to 115v it was only going to regulate 115v, not 240v, so when it received 240v it overloaded and exploded! If it was set to 240v in the first place your PSU would correctly regulate the power and it'd be just fine. Too bad, since it was a user error, no RMA for you, but you can try! 😉

Oh S**te lol, that would explain why stuffs rattling around inside it (which didnt happen before) Ill try and RMA it on the basis that it was a UK one that i ordered and not an American one and not mention the little voltage accident 🙂

Yeah, the first time with the wrong voltage screwed up more than just the fuse. So the second time you plugged it in it was really screwed up and ended up taking out the whole circuit of your house it was on. One time when I was little I re-wired one of those little golf-ball returners for putting practice, and when I plugged it in it exploded and took out the whole downstairs circuit.
