My PSU and the 260gtx

I'm thinking I might upgrade to a 260gtx. I thought I was in the clear but then I found out that the requirements call for 36A on the 12v rail. My PSU only has 35A. I know that even though I'm one amp short of meeting this "minimum reccomended" requirement, the 260gtx will still run games on my PC. Will that one amp give me any troubles or come back to haunt me?

I think the recommended power supply applies to generic psu's that brag about maximum output as opposed to maximum continuous output. If you haven't had any problems with your PSU, I don't think you will have problems with 260gtx, but I could be wrong.

In reviews, it gets the same ratings a higher-end PSU would. I read they also use high quality capacitors normally used in higher end PSU. Its lasted a week or two shy of a year now. But I'm still iffy on this matter since its not a Corsair PSU though :p

I like how there's three NFSCars members here on this thread...including self (and you didn't even think to make a thread at NFSCars??!!! TRAITOR)

I say you most likely won't need a new power supply but I would also say you wait until the power consumption numbers come out for the GTX 260. I call dibs on your 8800GT should you ever sell it (maybe).

Your second link says at full tilt, the machine is using 310W at the power socket. If you take 80% efficiency into account, the system actually only needs 248W which isn't all that much.

What kind of cooling are you running that system on?

quoted from NFSCars:
On my GT yea
I'm also using a Vantec Fan card (brought down my temps from my old 8800gts from 70C to 60C). I cant imagine how hot it would be without it. I also have that one case fan on top the PCB 'member?lol

Get an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 or something. The stock 1-slot coolers really suck. I've seen an Accelero S2 keep a 512MB 8800GT under control first hand in a case that doesn't have mad airflow and it does fine.

Ima buy som arctic and glob it on first; see if that helps. I bet that accelero would work wonderfully with my fancard too :}

AS5 might give you a couple of degrees...but nothing major. I still say you buy an Accelero :p

i know, but if my whole issue is due to the probability that EVGA put little arctic on my card, i say its worth it.
I can just picture how great air would flow from my fancard, to the accelero, to my 8800gt though....sweet.

The last time I got a video card cooler off, the crap was caked on there. I swear the dye was overdosed with all that thermal splooge.

The stuff is like some freakish combination of gauze, rock, and human blood. Get the accelero :p it has mx-2 applied already.
