Whenever I put a disc in it says read error or no data on disc. This is for any disc, not just one certain one. Does anybody know what could be wrong or how I can get it fixed?

my friend went through 2 PS2s like this already. We sent them back to a free fix by Sony. Call them up and bytch and moan and they will probably give you a free servicing too. You just gotta pay for the shipping and ins. This is the second time that one of those two machines were sent in for work. He smokes a lot and I think the lens gets dirty from the smoke, but thats just my theory.

Try buying a CD/DVD cleaner. See if that helps.

If not, then sorry. :(

Where can you get these? Wal-Mart?

Wal-mart, radioshack, target, best buy, blah blah blah. You get them most anywhere man.

How old is it ? If its from launch Sony will replace it for free but otherwise its likely going to cost 100+ to get it fixed from them.

Well mine has hit the floor twice from about 3 ft and stopped working from people pulling the cord too far. I've taken it apart and reassembled the drive both times.

I have no idea how this helps you.

My PS2 had disc read errors and I took it apart and cleaned the lens and that fixed it. It's really not that hard. You just pop the feet off the bottom, take out the screws, and open it up. Then clean the lens with a q-tip and some alcohol. Also, before I took it apart I tried one of those dvd lens cleaners and it didn't work.

You're about to be flamed

not only is it morally wrong, but its a stupid idea too, they usually check the serial number on it as well

I also have problems reading discs, but just the blue ones... I tried cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and it still has the same problem :(
