I know what the problem is though. I was wondering if anyone can help me out. All that I need is the "ribbon" (not sure if that's what it's called) that connects the disc drive to the system. One of the teeth on the ribbon chipped off. Does anyone know how I can rectify the problem or where I can buy it or if anyone is willing to help me out? Thanks guys.

How does one "chip a tooth" on a ribbon cable unless they were unplugging/replugging it - in this case probably modding your PS2?

Just curious.

I opened my PS2 up because the laser was having trouble moving up and down (which caused the PS2 to crash every 10 minutes due to inability to read the disc properly). So I oiled up the area which allows the laser to move, and the ribbon came loose. I guess I put it in the wrong way because it wouldn't work. So when I took it back out, one of the teeth were chipped and wouldn't allow the ps2 to read any of the data on the discs. I was just careless made a dumb mistake.

You mean the foil cable that connects the reset/power switch to the case? If so thats a common problem and I have seen just the cable for sale on some sites.

Use either Circuit repair pen

or a windshield defogger repair goop thingy.

How much do one of these pens go for? And is it fine & precise enough to repair a chipped tooth? Thanks

Not that foil cable...it's a plastic cable that connects the disc drive to the system itself. The only problem with the cable is that the connector has a broken "tooth" (I apologize for my incorrect use of terms).

Sounds tempting...but I'll have to pass. I found a deal that is 96% cheaper than yours ;)

Did you find it right there immediately above your post?

You're welcome.

Actually I googled it, ordered it and posted it. I didn't see your post until after, but your research is MUCH appreciated because I got pretty lucky to run across that site. Anyways, thanks a lot labgeek.
