Capitalism kills millions every year. It's almost more destructive than nationalism, though it's hard to tell since those two combine so often.

Capitalism is rightly credited with having unleashed enormous forces of productivity and technology. But it has also reduced much of the world to ruin and squalor.

One doesn't need to read any further than this to see how off base the author is. There was no "reduce" as there was no "have" to reduce from. Sure, one of Capitalism's supposed "failures" is that some people get left behind in the system.... but then again, the system is about tangible and objective results - not subjective equality... (so then it's not really a failure in a true sense)

Meh - looks like standard ivory tower BS...
Spend enough time as a tenured professor working 4 hours/week and never having to actually be engaged in a real economy and your perceptions can end up rather skewed.

oh hey a conservative decrying someone intelligent has never actually been to college and seen how hard professors work every day. How shocking.

Funny, the same thing happens to folks who 'earn' enough to buy and sell your whole career every time they get their Christmas bonus;)

Greedy people lusting for money and power kills millions, regardless of capitalism, socialism, communism, or any form of government.

Socialism and communism actually kills more because those type of centrally planned system put power in so few and when those few with power goes nuts, millions got killed.

IMO our system is way too complicated with too many opportunities for money to slip between the cracks. The tax code should be simple. No loopholes, no writeoffs. Government corruption needs to be eliminated (and this should be possible given the technology we have).

It's great for your prof to say that capitalism is going down, but what is going to replace it? I found his article was poorly written and all over the place, especially at the end.
