GTX 580 was $500 the HD 6970 was about $400 (being generous) that is a 25% difference in price. The HD 6990 is $700 so 25% difference is $175, making an estimated $875 for the GTX 590. So my guess is $850-899

Cheapest 580 referance design on newegg atm I could find = 480$ (499-20$ MIR)
Cheapest 6970 referance design on newegg atm I could find = 309$ (339-30$ MIR)

Currently theres a price differnce of about 55%!!!
for about 10% faster 580 card.

I doubt the 590 is gonna be cheaper than 2x "current price of 580".
Current cheapest price of a 580$ is around the 480$ mark.

Thus Im guessing we ll see it around 900$ or abit over (dual gpu cards always abit more expensive than 2x normal version).

I am talking release prices not reference cards months after release.

I also disagree about only 10%, its often 20%. Which is still not earth shattering, but we are at the limit of 40nm. The price gap between the gtx 570 and 580 has never made money sense to me, but its the tax for the best.

Couple things learned about the 590 in the last few hours, TH is running that Evga and Asus are the only US vendors to make the card.
TweakTown is running with Crysis 2 launching same day as the card, 3gb is mentioned, that would point to gtx 580's OR the gpu's could be like the gtx 480 with its 480 cores, 384 mb bus /1.5gb of ram.
Why would they go that way ? I don't know, I'm just throwing it out there, it might need a hair less voltage, keep costs down. And we see this move with the new Evga gtx 4602win card.

Do we really have to follow the leader and hear about Dragon Age 2 issue in every thread ?
Maybe in comparing the new Geforce card against AMD's best we will see a demo of PhysX and 3d game play ? And maybe 8xAA in Starcraft 2. Extreme tessellation in Hawx 2 and Lost Planet 2 /sarcasm :)

Don't get your panties in a bunch. Nvidia currently has an issue with DA2, there is a thread with over 300 replies in it now regarding the issue, it's a hot topic here. It's all in good fun...

There's no way in hell the 590 is going to be a thousand dollars.. NO WAY. Alittle birdie told me 799.00 will be the MSRP from Nvidia so expect it on newegg for 829.00

I predict it will be a massive die, require some kind of exotic cooling, pull around ~400W of power, and double as a space heater.

So is 375w the magic number? The 6990 can pull 375w but 400w is 'unacceptable'? Interesting logic here.

799$? Why would they price it lower than two 580s?

We have seen aggressive pricing on seemingly 'great' deals in the past.

The gtx 285 and 295 launched around the same time.
@ 380 and 499 .
The 295 used deactivated 285 gpu's.

Another president was the 5970, with its 2 5870's that msrp near 400 each and the 5970 was msrp @ 599.00

So who knows ?

As far as i know the 295 used underclocked 275 gpus which MSRP was 249$.
I just don't see nvidia pulling an AMD on this one..

Did he say anything about either being "acceptable" or "unacceptable." Interesting jump to conclusions here.

The best thing that nVidia can do is compete in price, considering that with current Catalyst 11.4 shows an average improvement of 7% in lots of games with the HD 6900 series, it ain't hard to prove that the GTX 590 will be indeed slower by a small margin due to being TDP limited. Somehow I suspect that the price launch initially will be the same as the HD 6990 and then it will drop in price first closely followed by HD 6990 price drop.

Thats the thing, the 590 may also release with a new 'homerun' driver itself. That picks up % and scaling.
The 590 uses a nf200 bridge chip, that they are referring to in one of the slides. No idea if it offers any benefit VS a no name bridge chip at this point in time.
Thats what the reviews are for.

I thought the NF200 was almost impossible to find, and i thought they mentioned it as a "custom" bridge. Are you sure it is the NF200?

He never said the 6990 is not also a space heater (or noise generator for that matter). I think you are making an assumption here. The topic is the GTX590 in this case.

\Its been showing up on all the prototype cards floating around. I just did a quick google to find a article where they mentioned it like here: Whats funny this is dated back to last year, and they are using the 375 watt #.

Nvidia prepares its dual core graphic card
http://electronicinfo.us/news/nvidia-prepares-its-dual-core-graphic-card/
NVIDIA is aware of the AMD’s strong competition. After releasing the GTX 580, the company intends to launch a dual core graphic card.

The graphics card’s name hasn’t been announced yet, but there are some rumours the GPU can be called either GeForce GTX 590 or GeForce GTX 595. The graphic card is going to be a strong competitor for the unreleased yet, Radeon HD 6990 – which is also planned to be a dual core graphic card.
The photo which enet.com.cn presents is unofficial. It depicts a GPU which is still under construction. The graphic card is alleged to be the most efficient GPU on the market.

The graphic card is equipped with two NVIDIA GF110 GPUs with an NF200 bridge. Each circuit is supported by 1536 MB of GDDR5 memory. NVIDIA hasn’t revealed any information about GPU clock yet.
NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 59x boasts a TDP of 375 W. That’s massive when compared to the other GPUs – for example GeForce GTX 580 has got a TDP of 244 W.
To feed the GPU, two 8-pin connectors, as well as PCI-Express x16 2.0 are required.
The official date of release is still unknown. The NVIDIA’s monster will certainly be one of the most efficient graphic cards ever released.

Here's my Prediction.

"Rated" as 375 watt at default setting, but more like ~425 IRL (in real life).

Will be hotter than 6990. Louder? That's a tough feat to beat.

~800-ish price, but will be constrained/limited in supply (this is purely a halo card to be able to claim "we're the kings" --- also explain why only two AIBs are getting it.)

At default it will trade blows in most games, win convincingly in a couple titles, and lose consistently at multi-monitor resolutions.

People still won't agree on which is better.

I have to think, if this thing uses 375 - 450 watts and Nvidia manages to keep the noise in check that will make it look like AMD really dropped the ball on the 6990.

That card looks like an absolute mess. I can't even call it a dog's breakfast, vomit on it would probably improve how it looks. I mean, compared to a naked 6990...
