Just received and installed my Zotac 3080, the thing is long, at 317 cm, longest card I have had till date and only 10 cm from what my humongous Antec 1100 V2 will allow.

Happy to report that despite some negative press, the card runs cool, quiet and fast. Using Zotac's firestorm utility with a 105% power limit , +25 on core and +500 on ram, boost clocks are stable in the 1900 Mhz range.

One point to note: make you have latest firestorm utility installed before installing the card because the RGB LED fw needs to be updated right away or may lead to the LEDs dying very soon. Happily the update went smoothly for me and completed on the first attempt despite reports otherwise.

How did I get it? Noted the times Zotacs usually go on sale (late evening PST), and sat logged into my account and PayPal and the express checkout links ready to go. Managed to score a 3070 and 3080 after 40 days of futility using this method.

Running on a 5960x at 4 Ghz, 32 GB DDR4 2400 RAM, X99 UD3P mobo and 9x SSDs lol.

Was tempted by Zen3 but hardly seems necessary since the CPU performance is around 2700x/3600x levels and barely makes a dent at 38" UW near 4k resolution.

Nice! I bet you could get 4.3GHz or so out of that 5960X. I know my Xeon E5 1660 V3 does about that. That and a small cache OC could also help with CPU performance.

I'm having significant driver issues all over the place, but completely random. Mainly in DX9/DX10 games. Additionally, RTX broadcast flickers like crazy.

Yep my 5960x is actually a Xeon like yours..unfortunately not a J batch so anything over 4 Ghz requires exponentially higher voltage and power. It does 4 Ghz / 3.6 Ghz uncore/cache at 1.185 V (my 5820k needed only 1.13V for this) , 4.3 requires close to 1.3v and begins to strain my 100i Pro in silent mode. Will eventually go Zen 3 but no pressing need for it, happy to let the craze die down on that one before I bite.

@Zstream , which card do you have.

One thing to note is that the Zotac's power limit is 340W max, now many see it as a draw back but do you seriously want to push close to 450W on a GPU for 5% extra? If you do , use the EVGA FTW3 bios and it will work (besides the LED I think) since the cooler can handle it.

On a more positive note, I do think the market for 3070s will stabilize very soon. There is little bite for these cards over the 600-650 price range, which makes sense given the 3080 starts at 700.

The performance on this thing is pretty insane. Pretty much every single option can be turned on every game at the native 3840x1600 res of my screen.Crysis Remastered being the only exception of course.... there were multiple drops today on NE hope folks got some. I had a FTW3 Ultra sitting in my cart for a few seconds, could have checked out had I wanted it.

Why would I RMA it?
Thought you said you were having issues? Unless you believe they are all driver related
...I'd say try crysis remastered yes it's an unoptimised mess but it tends to bring out GPU/system stability issues very quickly. I accidentally set my cache freq at 4.0 Ghz and the thing would lock up in 2 seconds, thought my 2070s earlier was a bad sample but nope was the uncore frequency.

Yes, it is driver related. Nvidia has stated that on their forums on the games mentioned. They also stated that they are looking into DX9, DX 10 enhancements because right now it’s no better than a decent 2k series card on those DX levels. Additionally RTX broadcast has known issues as well.

Still wondering if I should switch to a 56/800x soon, of course will have to hunt for it like the 3080... the upgrade itch is strong but the max 8x sata on the x570 boards is a bit of a bummer (yes I do use all 10 sata ports on my x99 plus a m2 PCI-E adapter for a SN550 drive). Plus things are rarely cpu limited at 3840x1600...changing the cpu and mobo on a new arch is also a serious time commitment often requiring a OS reinstall...trying to talk myself out of it. Now only if AT did a CPU comparison for all 8 C/16T processors from Haswell onwards using a normalized 4 GHz frequency...now that would answer all questions wouldn't it?

I know it’s different, but my 5930k @ 4.2 ghz wasn’t nearly strong enough to match my 5700xt.

I would advise consolidating the SSD drives but I don’t know your situation :)

About the OS install - I am planning on plucking my Dad’s 2TB nvme drive out of his x99 board and dropping it into his shiny new Z490 board and having it “just work”. I’ve heard/somewhat experienced that W10 is much more portable than previous windows versions. Do you know of a specific date reason it wouldn’t work for you/this platform?

Impulse bought a 5600x from NE..wondering if that was a good choice. Guess can always flip it for a little over cost.
