My prebuild motherboard has failed I suspect. My next step is to take the salvageable components and build a PC

You are kinda going about this backward. Start with CPU and board, then the rest will fill in more easily. If the power supply has a warranty of 7 to 10 years and has several left and is large enough to handle the new parts, has the right connections, use it.

Sry, the build a pc idea was canceled by mom. She's helping me pay for it partially. She suspects there's a chance i won't make it work if i decide to build it myself

So we purchased an Acer Predator Orion 3000 PC that was on sale off amazon

Sorry for wasting the forum's time with this thread!

Can't wait for the Acer computer. Will add extra drives from the old computer probably. And maybe some more ram cause there's only 16 gb's of ram in this new computer.

Technically, most motherboards can handle mixed memory ok. But, if you run different speeds and latencies of memory, it will all run at the speed of the slowest module.

Most games are fine with 16gb of ram, though some can use more if you download a ton of assets and/or mods such as cities skylines.
Music production usually does OK with 16gb of ram too. The only case with music production is if you have tons of samples/libraries in which case you may benefit from 32gb of ram.

Unless your use case has you needing 32gb of RAM, its likely a waste of money to buy the extra RAM unless you are just lazy and like to leave all your music production software up and running in the background when you have 500 tabs open in 3 different browsers and decide to play a memory heavy game at the same time... but even then, the computer will just swap the stuff in the background and still run everything generally ok, especially with a semi-decent M.2 SSD.

If you insist on getting more ram, it might be worth keeping the 16gb for now, and, if in 1-2 years you need the ram, you can always buy the ram in the future. (And hopefully, it will be cheaper too since RAM is expensive currently due to all the price fixing in the market)

So making it 32 might hurt or it won't be compatible ?(assuming there's 4 slots and only 2 sticks connected)

If you plan on playing newer AAA games I strongly suggest 32gb's over 16. (depending on the price of course)

RIGHT NOW 16 is just BARELY enough but shortly that will change.

I agree 16GB isn't really enough for gaming on Windows these days, in many cases. Especially considering background processes and stuff. 32GB has been pretty standard as the sweet spot for a while now, though with DDR5 and 12GB or 24GB DIMMs, 24GB or 48GB of total memory are also viable options. In any case, good luck with the new PC.

Here's a tip:

Holy cow! Did you come up with that list yourself? Nice build, as I came up with I am pretty sure the exact same parts for a build I recently did for an acquaintance!

The predator orion arrived and quite pleased. Added two ssd's from my old computer to it. Recognized those drives immediately.

Do people actually put their computer on the table to take up space?

Take one tablet daily. That reminds me, I need to take my medicine.

Nice PC. I hope it gives you many years of reliable service!
