My PPD will be taking a dive

I just got my electric bill (covers half December) It was almost $400. I am turning off half my farm soon.....So I may be down under 150k ppd.

Sorry to hear that. I thought you could get 300K PPD per month for under $300? 😛

I thought so too. Dec 21 was $267, and I was at 280k, now at 300k (new 2600k), but I have to cut down...

I will be selling all my Q6600 motherboard/cpu combos (locally, I don't ship first)

Ouch! $400 is a lot of money. Totally understandable though. Any future computers I build will have a gold certified PSU just for that reason.

And thats exactly what I am doing... Except one, all will be over 90% (gold) and 45 nm for cpu and GTS250 or better video (and only 2 of those)

Darn...a sad end to a great farm you have built up...shame they don't make human-size gerbil wheels so you could toss a couple of politicos inside and power up that farm for ya - best use for those missing links than having them pick our pockets instead of truly solving this nation's problems...

I don't know which boxex you actually use as your PC, but personally I'd get rid of anything that wasn't an i7, 2600+ or the 1090T and any video cards below the 460s.

Exactly my plan

yeah.. my bill has been $500+ the last couple of months... I've been working on making my PSU golds also.. and i'm working on getting rid of my core2s... I've cut back on my crunching this month too... just mainly doing aqua, gpu grid, and milkyway.

I'm working on making my systems all wc and i've removed all my OCs.... dang electric company... cut me a break so i can cure cancer .. or something. 😀

Any plans on consolidating hardware into a few boxes (i.e. Dual/Triple/Quad GPU boxes)? I wonder if that'll cut down on the electricity, if you only have a few boxes crunching at once.

That or I wonder if a Tesla card could replace some of those 200-series GPUs?

I remember reading folders who set up highly overclocked SR-2 rigs still come out way ahead in terms of power usage versus getting two separate boxes. Perhaps in the long term, in SR2 set up makes more sense economically even though the initial costs can be quite staggering.

Me and bro just implemented 3 1U rack servers that were collecting dust running each one running 2 @ 3.6Ghz Irwindale Xeons. They're atrociously loud, hot, power inefficient, and hardly do that much work but we figure while we're here at college and don't pay utilities in the dorm, why not? 😛 One of the guys here in the IT department is so interested in what we're doing here with all this equipment that he's greenlighting alot of things that would have been roadblocks for us regarding network infrastructure.

Every box I have has one smp client, and 2 gpu clients. Down to 6 boxes, and 18 clients, but still looking at 245k ppd.

Maybe things won't be so bad....

😎

Maybe in a couple of months, I'll retire my 2 Q6600s and replace them with a Sandy Bridge system.

Hey, my main rig's still powered by one of those 😛, still got a reasonable output after all this time 🙂.
Btw are you selling any any Q9xxx that o/c to 3.8-4 GHz?

Mark
You've still got good output!😎
Nasty bill btw! 😱

No X3350's, that one is my sons. He moved out, so I should probably remove it.

But the good news, is, 6 rigs, and still 244k, and thats with a GTX470 in RMA (computer locks up when in 3d mode) Should be 12-14 k higher when it comes back, or 256-258k

Running at 50% load for that $400 bill the difference between an 80+ Gold and 80+ Bronze is about $44 in theory. Of course, at higher and lower loads the difference will be less; but changing to an 80+ Platinum, or changing from a worse PSU, will result in a greater difference.

Its in the picture... 33k Its 10% faster than my 4 ghz 950's and 10% higher on ppd.
Just wondering, wouldn't it be better to move all your GPUs from your Core i7s to the 1090T and the E5520 boxes, and use those to run -bigadv?

I have 2 GPUs on EVERY box. This current setup is pretty efficient !

And all but one have GOLD certified, > 90% efficiency, the last one is > 85% (per the spec) 2 Corsair 1200's, and 2 AX850's and a 750 Corsair. The last is an OCZ 1010 >85%

And I have 5 different bigadv units going. I don't understand your post.

The more GPU's on a box, the more efficient totally. Motherboard, hard drives PSU, case..

And most motherboards can only handle 2 double width GPU's (the only ones I get for cool and quiet cooling)

Think about it this way, what is the most cost efficient way to get over 50k ppd out of a box ? One I7 at 4 ghz, and 2 460 gtx cards. $600 for those, and then $500 for the rest of the box (90% eff PSU)
