I broke my elbow the first time and they casted immediately.
I broke my forearm the second time and they casted 3 days later.

when they first saw him a PA checked the wet read of the Xray...couldn't see the fracture but said that based of physical exam he thought there was a break.Radiologist called yesterday afternoon, said there's a lot of fluid visible, hiding what he feels is a break. We see the surgeon
today.

Pain killers? Back in my day, I broke my arm and didn't see a doctor for two weeks. By then it had healed enough to keep it in a soft cast.

We also walked five miles to school every day in a blizzard, with grizzly bears roaming about. Back then we called them rare bears, because they'd eat you rare. That was the year Slim Puddlebury hit a whallop (a home run to you youngsters) over the louie (left to you youngsters) field wall and broke the window of Mr. O'Donnely's Model T. Luckily Calvin Coolidge had just vetoed that bastard McNary's bill and saved us all a bunch of dollars so it wasn't much of a problem to buy a replacement, the only sacrifice being my mother (god rest her soul) cutting back on Cupid's Bow for a couple of months.

he's taking good size doses of motrin, alternating with tylenol,he gets the big gun pain killer at night,he'll also get pain killer around doctor appointment time because that's painful.

Nobody here uses much medication or abuses substances but being in bone pain when relief is availble is not acceptable imho.

My 6 yo son dislocated his thumb on Friday. He was leaning back in a chair (Like they're not supposed to!!!!) and fell backwards and landed on it. He didn't make a sound, he just walked up to the teacher (I got all this from her) and showed her his thumb. She said she jumped out of her chair.

Took him to the Dr., nothing broken, they didn't even wrap it up. So I bought a splint & ace bandage and wrapped it myself just in case.

Anyway, he wouldn't keep any kind of bandage on it & by Sunday he was out playing tetherball:/

FWIW, I wouldn't give him a pain pill before the doctor visit. The Dr. should see what he is actually feeling. Even if it hurts.

I've chipped my left elbow twice. Not fun at all.

Your son will need to make sure that he exercises his arm sufficiently once the cast is off so he is able to regain most of his arm movement back.

Yeah it is... he's bummed because it's his right elbow,he's right handed which makes playing his new Xbox 360 difficult and also results in having to have me or Red Dawn cut his food for him.

How is it a problem if his elbow is broken. You only need to use the fingers

i broke my right elbow in 1st grade. i can still remember it, the most pain i had felt to that date. playing my old NES was a chore, as well as eating and writing. i was able to adapt to writing and eating left handed fairly well tho.the cast also made a great paperweight too. mine was set in a position that wasnt comfortable for anything but resting it, made it hard to do normal activities.

I feel for you. I broke my pinky and ring finger on my right hand saving a ball from going out of bounds in high school basketball and refused to get them reset. Now they're crooked too.

Could be worse, I broke both my left and right arms at the same time in 6th grade. The left one had a cast up past the elbow and the right one that ended below the elbow.

Be careful with elbow breaks - I don't know what type he has, but some of them should not be put in casts. My wife has managed to injure her elbow (twice!) from falls where she caught herself with her hand, but the impact with the ground essentially drove one of the lower arm bones into the upper one, causing some splintering. In this case we were advised not to use a cast because immobilizing the elbow joint causes mobility loss. Instead my wife went to physical therapy to get back her range of motion in the elbow. But, it is entirely possible that your son has a different (or more severe) type of break that requires a cast.

You must've never broken a bone. I broke both of my collarbones (they happened several years apart) and it hurt like hell at first to move the other arm around very much.

I dunno what a broken elbow feels like, but I don't think he can hold something with his right hand very well right now.

How do kids break bones? I did crazy shit all through my childhood and never broke a bone. Ever. I split my head open, but never broke a bone. Is your kid "frail?"

Make sure he gets all the kids in school to sign his cast. Do kids still do that? hmm.
