My poor clutch :(

I drive a WRX 5spd, and was stopped on a hill at a red light. A car pulled up right on my ass, and I did the usual.. Hold the brake until you have to the clutch up to the friction point, then add gas. Well, when I did this, I didn't bring the clutch up to the friction point, and I rolled back a bit. I paniced and rev'd the engine extremely high, and had the burning clutch smell. The engine was screaming when I did this Man I'm pissed at myself. How much long-term damage to the clutch do you guys think I did?

I drive that exact same car and have done that exact thing, though in a different situation.

the clutch is fine, it just tried to slip off the plate. dont keep doing this and you will be fine. driving a clutch up a hill and stopping blows major chunks

i did that once to my car...i hate it when people want to rub bumpers on a hill --- these are the same morons that usually go slow as fvck in the left lane.

I've heard varying opinions. Some people say it would be 50/50 since you are responsible for not allowing the car to roll back, but the other party could also be cited for following too close. If you roll back a couple yards, then that could be a different story

this lady i know, one guy this to her and she just slowly let her car back up till she sat on his bumper, then went through the light without causing damage. he didn't sit so close anymore

hahah, i did the same thing on my stealth today, but i was on a flat and I just revved up a bit high before launching.

Do you guys generally do what I described when on a hill? Or do you just use the parking brake?

yup. hold the brake then let out the clutch till it wants to go

yeah, cos i'm lazy, but it does take a load off the clutch if you use the handbrake

On a hill I usually just brake and stay in neutral then at the time I need to go throw it into first and pull the clutch almost all the way out before applying gas. In that car, since I have the same one you do , the clutch catches very high so you should have no problem learning the timing. The result is pretty much like an automatic, you don't roll back and it's smooth.

Depends on how steep the hill is. I havent put on the e-brake for a while on the hills around here, but im sure that some of the places I would simply for comfort.

I had a buddy that was found at fault when someone did that and rolled back into him. He was not happy.
