For a Russian Dwarf hamster she got very old. 34 months, 2 years and 10 months.
I gave her a lot of attention everyday and every day fresh food, the same food that i myself consumed.

She really had a lot of character and personality.

Sigh...

And i have another problem.
Now i am stuck with a huge empty cage. I cannot buy another Russian Dwarf hamster in the future because some dopehead politician here in the Netherlands banned Russian Dwarf hamsters as pets.
RD hamsters would spread diseases. Such a nonsense as if cats and dogs do not spread diseases. Anybody ever heard of toxoplasmosis ?

The pet industry is a billion dollar (euros) industry .

Did you try AED? You know, pierzo-electric?
Her last hour, she hardly had any heartbeat and she was feeling very cold.

She got with me the best life a hamster can have. Only thing missing is a partner. That i could not give her. I would end up with 10 baby hamsters every 2 to 3 months.

Sorry :^(

Maybe try rats. A friend of mine has some, and they sound pretty cool. Very intelligent and friendly. Lots of character.
I don't know. Rats do not look as cute as Russian Dwarf hamsters. And they would probably chew through the plastic bottom part of the cage.

I am sorry to hear. I know that sometimes humans relate better to animals closer to their physical size, but I cried when we lost one of our newborn lizards from a brood two years ago. Her memory lives on, if only through you and those that have read this post. o7 small one.

Are any neighboring countries RDH friendly - just smuggle one in?

I'm sure the dark web has some breeders willing to give up one...for a price.

RIP Piëzo 🌹🌼 💔

2 females MIGHT be ok .... 2 males OTOH will most likely fight endlessly until there's only one. :(

*(had many a hamster when I was a kid)

Now that you mention it, you're probably right, I forgot they tend to do that. My nephews got some for Christmas many years back and it did not end well when they put them in the same cage.

Sorry to hear. If you get another do try to get 2 of same gender maybe, that way they'll keep each other company.
That would be fun but alas. Two of the same gender will not work for Russian Dwarf hamsters. Very rarely 2 of the same gender will cooperate but most of the time it ends in a bloody fight, one chasing away the other. Russian Dwarf hamsters are solitary creatures unless it is a male female couple that get along together.

It seems Chinese dwarf hamsters are still legal there, if it's the smaller size that's appealing to you.
I have been considering options for other kinds of animals. It seems the veterinarian has a legal duty to file a report with the police if someone has acquired a Russian Dwarf Hamster from another country other than the Netherlands. It is a witch hunt.
The dutch government allows for African mice, camels and (900kg) African cows to be kept as pets. Dogs and cats(domesticated) are compared with wolves and in the wild living cat species. It is weird. Polecats are allowed as pets as well. Even though these animals are very good at spreading diseases like for example Influenza. And they have anal glands that stink as hell as well.

When i look at that pet positive list, i see fresh mouse DNA for mouses that are used in laboratoria. Fur for expensive coats. And Fresh genes for ruminants like the domesticated cow.
Those researchers who did this research have tunnel vision and are really not fit to be called researchers. The whole researchpaper is to be laughed at. But alas, the Dutch government is corrupt. We know this for some time now.
