I tried looking up the difference and the main thing I see are the free add-ins. I ordered the ODB2 adapter off of Amazon and it should be here Tuesday. If the Lite version works with my car, I will pay the $5 for Pro. Interested to see how close the HP/TQ and boost/PSI guages are to what the car is doing. Will take it to the track next time I go.

Oh, without the add ons you can't use track recorder. It's one of the free add-ons. You can still use the realtime information to see if it works though.

Just a word of warning, these cheaper elm327 OBDC adapters won't work with IOS due to the bluetooth stack. They are great for android devices, but don't work with ipads, ipods, iphones, etc, so if you are looking for a cheap OBDC adapter for IOS, don't get this.

Torque runs great on android phones too. Dashcommand is available for the iphone.

Can you record similar to what the OP is doing with the iphone with dashcommand it doesn't exactly look like it?

Or are there any cheap droid devices I could mount, around 4" screen or so primarily for dash recordings? So decent space, and decent camera.

Thanks for all the positive feedback!

For those that want to get one: This is the bluetooth OBD2 adapter I use:

It's the BAFX one and it works very well. The port is usually located under the dash somewhere, on mine it's on the driver's side, left of the steering column, under the dashboard.

You need an OBD2 port for this to work. OBD2 came out around 1996.

Does it also read regular engine codes? service engine and such.

So I can do the same thing with my Galaxy S3? If so, I'm buying the adapter right away.

Also, what is the difference between Torque lite and Pro?

I think that pro lets you do logging and has some more interesting features, I can't remember the difference between them sorry.
You might need pro to clear fault codes as well...
I'm sure it will tell you in the app store.

Install Torque lite and have fun. It's worth the upgrade just to support the developer I think.

I have an android phone, so I'm not too familiar with dashcommand, sorry.

I was on the fence about getting one of these but now you've convinced me. I'm hoping to get it before Thursday so I can give it a go on my Thanksgiving roadtrip.

I paid $20 for my harbor freight code reader. So for just a bit more I get everything it does plus all the fancy gadgets? SOLD

Wow this thread picked up again? I don't use the tablet anymore for this I use my DroidX phone because the latest version of Torque Track Recorder broke tablet functionality.

Why developers "improve" software by removing necessary features I'll never know. My guess is the developer doesn't use a tablet so they don't care if it doesn't work on one anymore.

As for how I had the tablet mounted, I used velcro. It worked very well, was secure and easy to mount and dismount. Only thing is every car dash is different so you'd have to find what works in your case.
