No close calls just Torque running Track Recorder plugin.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjNpgtQsGl8

Just out for a boring drive. A car or 2 run a red at the end tho.

2011 Chevy Cruze 2LT. You can see the vacuum gauge turn to boost when it's in the rpm range for it to kick in. Max boost is 16 PSI stock. It only hit 10 PSI max here because of not flooring the gas pedal.

On the timing advance gauge you can see it's around -10 to 45 (toward the end of the video) Lower octane gas will cause the computer to retard the timing. Higher octane and the engine runs noticeably better due to the computer not retarding the timing as much. Though intake air temps play a role as well.

It's running on an Asus TF101 Tablet PC dash mounted.

It is fun to have a dash cam and I recommend everyone get one.

OK now that is fvckin awesome, although mounting the tablet sucks. I have heard there is a dash app for the iphone but no idea how well it works. if it works well I wonder if a $200 ipod touch running it would make for a great dash cam...

nice. now i have to get this. how easy is it to install an obd2,bt adapter?

The adapter is the easiest. Locate port, plug it in, search in device blue tooth, pair, launch app!

Setting up torque and the plugins will need some detail and will be car dependent. All in all I had it working on my GTI within 5 min.

You've inspired me to research such a set up... Is there anyway to use go-pro footage, or are you stuck using whatever camera your tablet/phone has?

Nice, does that vehicle feature a DOD cylinder deactivation feature?, the HP dropped way down at points, I was wondering if that was this system operating..

The calculated power output changes with throttle position, nominally.

Thanks for all the positive feedback!

For those that want to get one: This is the bluetooth OBD2 adapter I use:

It's the BAFX one and it works very well. The port is usually located under the dash somewhere, on mine it's on the driver's side, left of the steering column, under the dashboard.

thats cool. Probably wouldnt work on my ancient cars though

You need an OBD2 port for this to work. OBD2 came out around 1996.

It's easiest to use your tablet's or smartphone's internal cam. But since the video and data are in separate files that later get superimposed on by the Track Recorder plugin on your PC, it most likely is possible to swap out the video for another one.

Yes it cuts the fuel between a certain RPM range if you're off the throttle to increase fuel economy. In fact if you use the instant MPG meter you will see it temporarily go to 99 MPG when the fuel is cut off. For my next vid I will be putting this gauge on and I'll be using my DroidX cellphone to see the difference between it and the tablet. The DroidX also does 720p.

I've got Torque too. Does a great job at tracking stuff, and it really is pretty cool to watch. It's surprisingly accurate too, responds pretty much just as quick as my mechanical boost gauge.

one last question. can i leave the OBD adapter plugged in at all times?

Shouldn't be an issue, although some cars have issues. For example, my remote lock/unlock basically stops working if I leave it in the OBDII port. No clue why...

Why at the end did it say you were moving at like 11 mph when you were sitting still?

You can but it will be a small drain on your battery. It's ok if you use the car everyday but if you leave the car sitting around unused for a few days or more then you either need to put it on a battery tender or unplug the OBDII adapter.

Why at the end did it say you were moving at like 11 mph when you were sitting still?

The video is lagging behind the gauges. Torque and Track Recorder are a work in progress and get updated from time to time. I'm hoping one of the updates will fix it. Also I think it's really intended for android cellphones and not tablets. Not sure if the dual core processor in the tablet is causing the issue. As I said earlier I will try it on my DroidX nest to see if it works better on there as I think the developer tests on phones and not tablets.

Does anyone know if one of the Asus TF101 tablet's cores can be temporarily disabled to see if it fixes the issue with out of sync video? I guess I should ask that in Mobile Devices forum.

Although phone processors are getting fast dual core now too so not sure if that is the problem or not.

It could also be an issue with TorqueSync which is the program on the PC which handles the upload and video overlay.

Update: I just found a couple of settings in Torque preferences that might fix this issue. One is Faster Communication, which was checked that I now unchecked. The other is Disable ELM327 auto timing adjust. I'll try those out and see if it helps.

So I can do the same thing with my Galaxy S3? If so, I'm buying the adapter right away.

Also, what is the difference between Torque lite and Pro?

If it runs the Android OS then yes it can run Torque. Don't know what the limitations of lite are. I never bothered with lite because Pro was only $5. A quick google search didn't turn up anything.

do they have a WP7/WP8 version? :\

Don't know. If you have that OS on your current phone search the app store.

I tried looking up the difference and the main thing I see are the free add-ins. I ordered the ODB2 adapter off of Amazon and it should be here Tuesday. If the Lite version works with my car, I will pay the $5 for Pro. Interested to see how close the HP/TQ and boost/PSI guages are to what the car is doing. Will take it to the track next time I go.
