Well I went ahead and ordered a P5P800-SE. It's got the 865PE chipset so none of the PLL crap to limit overclocking, and it's got BIOS support for Presler and Cedar Mill. Too bad Abit isn't keeping up, I'm sure if they wanted to the Abit AS8 could support these chips. They still haven't updated their website to show ANY support for the new chips.

Hopefuly Asus comes out with a bios fix, but I think it's the PLL crap with the 945 chipset that keeps the board from overclocking more than 10%. Otherwise I'll have to get a new motherboard, and that would suck.

Just curious...did you try the BSEL mod with solder, conductive silver paint, or ????
I've done this BSEL mod with Prescots before using conductive silver paint but the same method does not work with Presler's or Cedar Mills. I think the tolerances on the electrical specifications might be a bit different on the 65nm chips and maybe there is too much resistance with the connection.

I soldered a very small wire. All I have to is pull BSEL1 low, and that should have worked. High is open, so as long as it's shorted to ground it should work. It looked like my wire came loose when I put it in the socket. When I pulled it out, it was only connected to one of the points. I think I'll try it on the P5P800 before I attempt the BSEL mod again, just don't like putting a soldering iron that close to my chip with my shaky hands lol, so I will probably try the conductive silver paint if I try again.

Well the BSEL mod doesn't seem to work. It just plain won't post after trying it. Removed the BSEL mod, and it still boots right up. Got my P5P800 SE today, but I can't get it to post on that board. It turns on, fans spin up, but nothing other than that. If I remove the memory, I do get a post code, 1 long, followed by 2 short, which supposedly indicates video card error. I used both my 6600GT AGP, which is running in another system, and also tried my old yet reliable PCI video card. Only response I get outta the thing is when I take out the memory, otherwise fans spin, but no beep, no post, no display. UGH!

Well, stuck my old 3.2 ES in the P5P800 SE and flashed the bios. Now it boots up with the Presler. Haven't played too much yet, but booted at 256mhz FSB, 3.58ghz, stock voltage, stock heatsink, bios reporting 32c as the temp. Now just gotta yank out the water cooling, so I can swap this motherboard in to the case.

Well still not having much luck. Have tried 5 motherboards now
Foxconn 945chipset board..won't boot past 222mhz FSB
Asus P5LD2-VM 945 chipset..won't post past 222mhz FSB
ECS 945P-A won't post past 222mhz FSB
Asrock 775Dual 880pro incresing the FSB in bios, made the FSB actualy decrease
P5P800-SE stable at a max of 3.36ghz, but I'll keep trying.

Seems the only ones getting it to 4ghz+ are using the P5WD2 Premium, that costs $200+.

Yes, and now for whatever reason, (probably bios setting, or not completely flashed bios) my 820D that WAS running at 245 FSB won;t go past 222( that was my mobo we tested on) We tried for hours. I have to go to bed now, but I will try to get it back to 245. If I figure it out, I will post back. All I can say is that my first Intel OC'ing experience has been a nightmare. I spent weeks getting to 245 (3.43 ghz), and now I have to spend weeks agin to get it back. We flashed bios and re-set cmos so many times it makes me dizzy. I am sticking to X2's until somebody can prove that you don't need a $200 mobo to do overclocking with an Intel chip, unlike my $80 AMD motheboards from 5 different manufacturers.

There doesn't seem to be much point to overclocking a 920D if you need a $200 board to do it. Ugh.

Well with some advice from DarkKnight69, I was able to get the P5LD2-VM to 256mhz FSB. Setting the PCIe to 110mhz got me to 245mhz fsb. Setting it to 115mhz got me to 256mhz FSB. Still won't let me set the FSB past 265mhz though, and I need 300 to get to 4.2ghz.

Hey mark, try leaving your PCIe set to synchronous, and see if you can get back to 245mhz FSB.

edit: see here for some updates.
