The system also sometimes into a sort of loop where it will boot up as far as the windows logo(with the black background) and then reboot again and again without ever loging into windowsXP. Sometimes I can login to windows and it then may reboot after an hour or maybe 10mins.

So far I have tried reinstalling drivers, tested my memory modules, and checked that all cables are securely connected inside the case.
I have also unchecked the "automatically restart" box in System Properties -->Advanced-->Start Up and Recovery-->Settings. Afetr doing this my system still reboots without warning!!!

My CPU temp is 46 degrees Celsius.

Please, any suggestions?

Pentium D950, Abit AW8, Corsair Value Select 2gb Antec P150 case with integrated PSU. Geforce 7900GT

Maybe the power supply doesn't have enought power on the 12v rail to support all the components.

Ever since my system started to rebot randomly, my DVD drive has also started to make significantly more noise. Also, if I play a DVD I am almost garaunteed to see a reboot within a number of minutes.

Is it possible that its the NEC DVD drive causing the problem and if so, how may i rectify the problem.

Thanks

P.S. I have also recently flashed the DVD drive but to no avail.

You've got three choices to test it.
A) Unplug unecessary items such as DVD drive, some extra fans, and run w/ only 1 stick of ram. If it runs fine you know you don't have enough power

B) Add up the wattage of all your components and see how that compares to the sticker on the side of your power supply. Keep in mind that as the more power use is increased, the less actual power is available (i.e.- some of the power is lost to heat, so even though it might be rated for 350 watts, it might actually only do about 320 or so).

C) Try a higher wattage (and more on the 12v rail) power supply

What are the specs of the current power supply (total watts and the 12v rating)?
The video card you have is pretty demanding.

My first bet to your troubles is a faulty RAM stick, though the DVD drive might also be the culprit. Remove it, and run memtest386.

It seems like he cant keep the PC on long enough to run memtest AND be there to see the results..

I am having this SAME issue beleive it or not, both with a laptop AND a desktop.

So aggravating.

Here's what I have-

- Abit AW8 Intel 955X (Socket 775) PCI-Express Motherboard
- Intel Pentium 4 950 Dual Core "LGA775 Presler" 3.4GHz (800FSB) -
- Corsair 2GB DDR2 Value Select PC5300 Dual Channel Kit (2x1GB) - Antec P150 Quiet PC Case - 430w HE Modular PSU
- BFG GeForce 7900 GT OC 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - - Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 250GB ST3250824AS SATA-II 8MB Cache -
- NEC ND3550 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Silver)

Seems to me that 430W PSU should handle all this?

Another important point that I havent stated is that memtest ran for 26 hours continuously and my system didn't restart!!
