Hello friends...(Sorry for my long msg posted here...)
I am new to this group and from netherlands...am planning to get a pc of following configuration given below...please feel free to comment on that.. I will using mainly for net browsing, downloading stuff, games and especially plan to do some movie editing along with my sony digital camera.
If possible try to give some tips on selection of video cord as I am planning to work along with video camera for editing /making movies etc. Is it better to have 32MB Geforce 2 MX Nvidia 4x AGP Grafische kaart (with TV-out) or 32MB Geforce 2 GTS DDR nVidia 4x AGP Grafische kaart?
I am planning to go for dell for below specification. Presently dell doesn't support for GTS DDR Video cord with TV-out option but I like to have that as it may be handy to watch dvd's on bigger flat tv. So
I am confused whether tofor couple of weeks i have to get GTS DDR with tv-out or have it now with 2 MX if it is also excellent for video editing etc...

And from what I've heard, they don't plan on doing so in the forseeable future. Good luck anyhow.

Bex0rs,
So what do u suggest for me if dell is not planning to have GTS DDR Video card with tv-out option? Can I go for 2 MX with tv-out option from Dell? Is that really good to work along with my digital video camera?

Hey Ravindran,

If you plan on doing digital video editing, I would recommend the ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON from ATI. It's definitely the best for DV editing. It also has some great extra features, including TV in and out, and a built in DVD hardware decoder. If you're more into DV than games, get an ATI product for their features and image quality. If you prefer games, generally go with NVIDIA for their blazing speed. Hope that helps...

I'm not sure what the shipping costs are for international deliveries, but you can get RAM for a much cheaper price than Dell offers. Dell charges ~$130 to jump from 128 to 256 MB, whereas a stick of 256 costs just ~$60 at Crucial.com. Even if shipping is exorbitant, I doubt it'll amount to $70+.

Of course, this is in American currency, and I'm not sure what the exchange rate is between the U.S. and the Netherlands. However, if it's not too bad, you can easily come out with more RAM (Dell's default 128 + 256 from Crucial = 384) at a cheaper price. (And in case you haven't done it before, RAM is the easiest component to install inside a computer.)

As far as video card... ATI's All-In-Wonder is your best bet. Unfortunately, I don't think Dell offers this in their config options, and I'm not sufficiently familiar enough with the nVidia line of cards to really offer any suggestions.

Good luck!

karmasalad..
That's a useful tip with regard to upgrading RAM... u r right .. I also noticed it... I pay an addition around 300 NLG to upgrade it from 128 to 256.. May be I think I should do it for 128 and latter change it to 256... is it that easy? I never opened pc ...ATI All in wonder... I have to check it out...u r right dell doesn't offer it...

Yep. Its almost as easy as turning on your comp. There's only 1 type of slot the RAM would fit it so it elimiated wrong slot jammings, and all you need to do is push it in the slot nearest the CPU and it should click in automatically with a small amount of force. Just make sure you have a shock leash (Static guard, whatever) or you could easily zap your mobo and RAM from static electricity especially if you have carpet.

Yup, it's really very easy. :) I used to be like you, never opened a computer before. My first ever installation of any component was RAM. After doing that the first time, I was like damn, this hardware stuff is easy! Little did I know... ;)

When installing RAM, just follow the directions that come with the system's documentation, and follow all the normal safety precautions (ground yourself, unplug the power, etc). You'll need to use a bit of force to push the RAM in and get it to lock, so don't be afraid about giving it a little bit of muscle.
