Why? How hard could it be?
To make it look good, a lot harder than it looks. Especially a pre hung door. Why? How hard could it be?
It's a nut buster
If you want to do it yourself get a pre-hung and a level and a plum. Fiberglass that are pre-stained are pretty nice, I would just go with the cheapest of the two places.
My mother is looking for something fancy :\ My mom is planing that when I go visit them for thanksgiving my dad and I will be able to install it
Bad idea?
What are your skill levels? My mother is looking for something fancy :\ My mom is planing that when I go visit them for thanksgiving my dad and I will be able to install it

What are your skill levels?
Pre hung door?
Know how to measure?
Know how to square/level?
Know what a shim shingle is?
This. And it's more about the correct way to square the door in the opening so that is hangs/closes correctly/lines up with the striker (if not pre hung) than the tools. It's not hard to hang a door if you have construction experience, but if you don't know your way around basic construction tools, pay someone.
**EDIT: Don't cheap out on your front door, buy one that you like.
My dad is getting into woodworking. He's been a mechanic for a while
Don't know yet. Door has yet to have been purchased
Yes
ASAIK yes
No
Nef, that's good. I'd hate for a Home Depot salesperson to show up at my door and attempt to do some work for me.I had 2 installed from home depot this year. They did a good job. Though they don't do the installations, they use contractors.
Hell yes, go for it.Also installed hardwood through the house during highschool
The worse thing that can happen is that we cant do it and hire some contractor to come finish up the job...
When I worked in construction, I always loved customers like you....you will pay a contractor twice as much to come and fix your fuck up.
If your father has done any wood working and has done mechanical work, then hanging a door is child's play. It's trivial how simple it is (I don't care what the posters above say.) Ditto for putting in replacement windows. Hell, one of those television do-it-yourself shows had a pro show a woman how to put in the first replacement window, then she did the rest on her own. Watch half a dozen youtube videos; they explain how to do it quite well. There's a lot of satisfaction in doing such a job yourself; and it's nice to save a couple hundred bucks.
