Blaaaaah, I asked them to call me before they did anything stupid.

They bought 3 46" Sony Bravia LCD tv's and went inwall for their speakers for the media room.

Argh. What a waste of money.

I can't WAIT to see what this guy tries to sell for them for the reciever, he'll probably try and sell them on monster cable too.

Yeah 3 46"s.

One for the 'media' (but not so much media anymore) room, one for my dad's library, and one for their bedroom.

My dad said, I bought the sony's because they sounded good.

Eh mang, if they're wired into the other speakers, you won't hear anything from the TVs so how they sound wouldn't make a difference.

Yup sad...

I'm also surprised at how many people don't buy projectors for their HT setups... The picture IQ far surpasses what any TV can do for about 1/4 the $/sqin of viewing area...

Nothing wrong with the Bravia line...and in-walls can still make great sound, don't generalize so quickly. One of my local shops has their main theater room outfitted with McIntosh in-walls.

Projector wasn't practical.

Bravias are widely regarded as some of the best LCDs out there. The XBR series in particular is excellent and has the best contrast ratios I've seen in any LCD.

If they paid cash for all 3 I'd just like to have their money.

What speakers did they get? There are some KICK ASS in-wall speakers out there.

Punk. I put alot of effort into researching TVs, audio equipment and recievers.. and asked my parents to talk to me before they went out and spent 20 on various crap.

I just asked to be consulted first.

So what should they have bought?

the bravias are nice so it wasn't a BAD choice, just the price it too high just cuz of the name

as for the in walls i dunno what their setup looks like or what they are going for, like for the library it might actually be pratical especially if it is a small space, not sure about the media room though

you wanted them to call you before they did anything stupid? what a paradox... you would have actually had to have been born in order for them to call you before conceiving you.

Well you obviously don't know squat if you're ashamed of the fact they bought a quality TV.

(Disclaimer... I worked in custom home theater for 15 years. Just got out)

Hmm... you might want to say something about that. I have no problem with the Bravias. They are nice TVs. Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Mitsubishi... Can't go wrong with any of those.

$200 in-walls are usually crap though. If they want to go in-wall and get something good, they need to be thinking in the $750-$1000 per speaker range. B&W, Paradigm, Speaker Craft (believe it), Energy, Sonance, And a few others... all make good in-walls in that price range. Sadly, M&K went out of busniess two weeks ago or I'd recommend them at the top of my list.

There are also some decent in-wall subs available as well if they just want that "stealth" look.
