Just got my grades back from my 8th (of 9) semester of college at Purdue. A in CS/Japanese/Math. C in History. Still semseter honors, still have my GPA above 3.5, but my parents can't stop telling me how awful my grades are for the C. Noone else I know is awake and I feel the need to vent.

The feel that you have the potential to do better than the C.

If you were able toget into Purdue and pull A in CS and Math, the the C seems to be a letdown to them.

They are proud of you - try not to disapoint them

I'm going to make a leap here and assume you're asian (nick == chu, common asian last name), then say that I can relate. My parents are the same way.

I am not much older than you but I would appreciate if you could watch your language for your parents.

Asian parents THINK they know best... learn to accept it, but don't care as much. You know what your own potential is.

i'm really suprised you do not hear about more asian children murdering their parents. I'm certainly glad I am a white boy.

If the best you can do is a C after trying your hardest, then they should be happy with the C. IF you are capable of getting A's or B's and you brought home a C, then they should ride your azz.

They want you to live up to your potential. Hardly the worst trait in parents.

:)

fvck em.

it's not like you *have* to show them your grades.

4 years of college and my parents never actually asked to see or expected me to show them my grades. I did show them, but only because I know that they compared them with my sister's, and I so totally kicked her arse in terms of college grades.

A C in history is pretty much inexcusable. It's way too easy.

Had it been a C in something like Organic Chemistry, Advanced Physics or Calc 2 then that would be ok.

Are your parents paying for your college? If yes, then you have to take their BS. If not - don't show them your report card, that is your business.

And yes, I didn't have to see your user name to know you were asian. I'm another thankful white boy whose parents couldn't care less about my grades in college. They raised me until I was 18, after that if I fail it's my own fault. "OMG a C - you are going to be SOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo unemployed!!!"

You weren't in the class :)

I don't know how your parents will live with the shame and dishonour you've brought into their house by getting a C. They must commit sepuku now, all thanks to you!

How does one get a C in history?

Your parents may have a point.

Ever stop to think that maybe Asians are the most successful minority in America BECAUSE Asian parents are this way???
