I saw the other guys parking ticket thread and it made me think of one I got back in March from a University police department while parking in a University parking lot w/out an ID. It was for $60 but I haven't paid it yet so I think it's around $80 now.

My first parking ticket so I'm wondering what happens if I never pay the ticket?

And there is a phone number on the back of the ticket which has been residing in my glove compartment that says "visitors call xxx-xxxx". What could this be?

they're going to charge your student account. :D

I had about 7 tickets from university campus... I paid them all on time though.

In California, unpaid college parking tickets can end up on your DMV record... :(

I guess I forgot to mention that I am NOT a student there lol. I was just going the the library. Well I guess I will pay it if it can end up on my record though the car is registered to my dad, though we have the same name.

But $80 for a parking ticket?

indeed... thats how campus parking police get their tickets paid... you cant register for next year or they wont give you your degree...... although, at my old school people made deals and didnt pay for the whole thing.....

Then your dad is going to have something to talk about with you when he finds out. :D

In almost every case, this means they can't do jack.

Around here they'll put a hold on the account if you own the university ANY money whatsoever... from tuition to phone bills to parking fees. With a hold, you can't register for classes, view your schedule, etc. In other words, you're fvcked until you pay the ticket.

Three unpaid tickets, and they'll put a boot on your car the next time they see it.

Edit: Oh, if you're not a student there, that's quite a bit different. :)

Hmm, I don't know if I should risk just ignoring it, or call the phone number, or do nothing. What do you recommend? The university was a Univ. of Texas campus if it matters

The $10,000 question is: Is it a public or private uni?

If it's public, the campus police have the same authority as a local police force - the ticket will end up on your driving record if they decide to be difficult about it. If it's private, then they have no real leverage outside of towing the car, but the boat has sailed on that one. :)

No, what I am saying the ticket is in his name since it was registered to him still and it doesn't matter what other vehical he drives when they pull him over.

Well, here is what happens when you dont pay a parking ticket in the great state of New Jersey.

I got a parking ticket in 1987. I dont ever remember being in the town the ticket was from... could have been a sibling borrowing the car.. or whatever.. it was my car, my responsibility. Anyway... there is this parking ticket. $6.00 in 1987. I did not know of this ticket... honest. Now, about 6 months later... I get in a fender bender. No biggie, no damage, no problem. We reported it to the police and just fixed our own cars. Six months later... I moved to the UK. I was there for 8yrs. I then went to Nashville, TN for 5yrs. I had a license in the UK and got one in TN. in 2000, I came back to NJ.... I was looking to change my TN license to a NJ one....

Come to find out... that $6.00 parking ticket in 1987... well, the suspended my license for it somehwere between ticket and when I went to england... so according to them... my being in that fender bender... driving while suspended. Now... the cop at the accident ran BOTH our licenses at the time of the fender bender and mine came up clean. no outstanding tickets, no suspensions.. nothing....

Bottom line... I got hit with the ticket... drving while suspended and 13yrs interest.

$6.00 parking ticket cost me.... $1,035.00 and it will remain as a judgement against me on my credit report until 2012... 7yrs from the date I paid it.

Actually I wouldn't be so sure. I've gotten public university tickets while visiting friends, and I've torn them up without any issues on my record.
