My one and only complaint about NBC's coverage of the Olympics

I've been very happy so far this year with NBC's coverage. We have 5 channels with Olympics Coverage, 4 dedicated (2 of those in HD), and the standard primary NBC HD channel.

So anyway, been happy so far except one thing. NBC needs to put a graphic on the screen as to what event were watching. Many times I sit down and watch a swimming race, or a bike race, and if I wasn't there to hear what race it was at the beginning, I have no idea how long the race is, what specifically the race is, etc.

Anyone else notice this? I would think it would be a simple graphic, and I'm pretty sure they had it up last year.

yes, and they wait to show the result graphic for too long after the end of the swimming races, they sit there showing the smiling winner's face, which is nice, but i want to see the times and the full results of all eight swimmers

We turned on a sport last weekend that we couldn't figured out. It seemed like a combination between soccer and basketball so we called it socketball. We later came to the conclusion it was handball but we'd never seen it played before.

I only have OTA NBC, there's a 3 hour tape delay so they can run it in prime time, instead of running all events from the day, they do an "encore" presentation at 1am or so which is just the exact same 5 hours you just watched...

But it's still pretty good coverage. I like the Olympics.

Yeah, I've had the same complaint, particularly on the swimming events.

Camera work can also be pretty bad...on some of the swimming races they'd keep inexplicably zooming and make it impossible to keep track of all the swimmers. Problem gets worse when you have a swimmer that jumps way out in front and is no contest for gold, while there could be the most amazing battle for 2nd and 3rd amongst 4 or 5 swimmers yet they'll keep zooming in on the leader...I can understand it to some degree for Phelps, but still...

My biggest complaint is that its not even live on the west coast. What's even worst if you go to nbcolympics.com even if you enter you zipcode so they know your in the pacific time zone. they tell you the results of the major stuff. Gee thanks NBC.

Actually, there are 5 channels in HD - Universal, NBC, USA, Basketball-only, and Soccer-only channels.

My one complaint is that there's too much chit chat going on DURING the actual event. Just call what you see, don't blab on and on. I've been most coverage in mute - basketball has been fine, though (Mike Breen ).

Don't forget Bob Costas and Matt Lauer. They're so fucking annoying. They couldn't find any one else? Oh wait, it's on NBC so no ESPN guys. I'll also buy my Pepsi with my MC or AMEX, thanks.

A complaint I have is after watching their broadcast that is usually 8pm-1am EST there is a half an hour for the news then they show the exact same broadcast again. Why can't they show me stuff they aren't even airing. I enjoy the Olympics a lot and I just like watching a good competition and don't care what country wins what I am watching (sure I'm routing for USA but still). It is like any even the US isn't suppose to do good in or has like no one participating in they don't even bother showing. Why not just show it at late night instead of rerunning the same thing I just watched live.

I don't have satellite or cable tv just over the air (I feel paying so much a month for television programming is a waste when there is very little I actually care about, and that I do I will catch on web usually)

That is a permanent fixture. They have it on on the replays, they show it on the ESPN highlights, etc.

... and there is a lot of it that really ISN'T live, it's only the broadcasters that are.
