My old man steps on a T40

So my old man steps on his own T40 after warning him repeatedly and lecturing him that he doesn't take care of his stuff. He leaves it on the floor when he was cutting wood on his table with a circular saw. I mean our family buys him a $500 A80 powershot and he leaves it in a warehouse that is being demolished. Well tonight, he stepped on the T40. It had a SXGA+ screen. I got this T40 for him for a pretty good deal. The screen is dead.
Any help on where to buy a new one>? That should I do?

Guys and Girls, let this be an example for you. As I admonish you to take care of your stuff.

Sorry to say this, but you're probably not going to find the help you seem to be looking for. Honestly, I think your best approach would be to stop buying your dad nice stuff. Chances are he's old enough to be set in his ways and he won't change, so you can expect any expensive gadgets under his control to continue to die an untimely death.

The cheapest place you are going to find a screen is
probably ebay. IBM direct will cost you close to $1000 to fix

I assume the warranty is up... Or is now.

so you will be repairing this yourself

IBM has a Hardware Maintenance Manual
that will give you very detailed instructions on how
to disassemble the machine.

well then if you intend on keeping the warranty,
you will have to have it fixed through the warranty dept. and pay for it.
if you fix it yourself you will loose all your warranties.

That's the standard warranty they will mail you a box.
Then you mail it in to the depot.

The only problem is the LCD is cracked,
they will know it was an accident and not a malfunction.
And they will deem it a billable repair.

I think he's only suggesting that insurance be purchased to cover FUTURE accidents.

To the OP. replacement parts for laptops are expensive. You should probably contact IBM or your warranty provider to find out how to get the parts so that your warranty isn't voided.
