When I got to my new job I was surprised that if I wanted bottled water I had to join the "water club" and pay monthly dues.

Hmm.

Well at my company's quarterly meeting a couple days ago we were pretty much officially informed of a wage freeze. So I'd be happy with just giving up the free joe.

I thought you were rich, why don't you have a personal butler at work?

Ha. Good question.

JK. It's really my family that is rich, and my personal money is not from a paying job, its from investments. I am a law student right now, this office is my internship.

Discontinued. Coffee. Management had better be prepared to reap the seeds they have sown. Did they really think that one through?

Well, before they had a special service. Now it is a small machine run by a secretary.

Coffee is pretty cheap and it keeps people awake so I don't know if that makes sense. As for the water, nothing wrong with people using the tap I guess.

Edit: Ah, never mind. Just read the above post.

That is acceptable. As long as there is still coffee. The last thing any company needs is a hoarde of drudgeo...err...employees suffering withdrawl symptoms. Keep the crack flowing!

😀

Welcome to, uh, life?

I love it when companies think that eliminating things like this help the bottom line, ends up doing more harm to employee morale than the minimal cost savings.

Yes, but now if people want to get "good" coffee, the company is losing 15 minutes of production of every person who takes a break to run to the nearest Dunkin or Starbucks.

Wtf? Bottled water?

Anyway, OP, how'd the discontinue the cooler. You mean a cooler with bottled water, or thye took away the water cooler.

My work has a water cooler with a direct line and a filter and uv light. They don't have to pay for delivery except replace the filter/light whenever it needs to be replaced.

Same here - took copier (we use 2x laser MFC now), cut janitorial down to once per week, taking water cooler, and can't buy anymore coffee.

Fun...

i still cant really use these in the same sentence...

my company still supplies coffee and bottled water. but whomever gets here first has to start the brew. we did invest in an industrial coffee maker tho, so its much better than it used to be with two mr coffees burning the hell out of the coffee

i still stop and get me a cinnamon coffee from circle k tho.

As part of my new budget program to save my company money I just signed a mandatory 5 year contract with a company called 'Pay Per Pee" They will come in this weekend and install the special equipment. As long as the other managers don't cut the water and coffee I'll make my department that was once pure overhead turn a profit!
BRILLIANT!

That's why we hire secretaries.

These days it's fairly common to see companies cutting back on discretionary spending. Coffee and water are usually at the top of that list. Company sponsord lunches, travel, and corporate credit card use are also in that category. If you're trying to save money, this is good place to start.
