We have about 800 people + sharing two T1s plus this includes all web/email server traffic as well. Dont gripe about your internet.

i used to work at a dial up ISP, it was sweet.

we had 2 load balanced T1's, and even at peak hours when all the dial in banks were pretty much full i'd still hit 2mbps both ways on my office machine, less than 10ms latency...

T1's aren't for people who need to download 234234234mbps...

they are fucking great because they are a direct connection to the provider, symetrical speeds up and down and awesome latency with the right equipment.

The interent i have access to during can really suck. granted we need to use a satelite dish and we can be 80+ miles offshore. Rainstorms really eff up the internet and our IP phones.

it could be worse.

whilel offshore, the ican barely access my corp. owa email. it kills itself when ever i do that.

Little industry secret- a T1 is essentially a dry loop SDSL line that they charge $$$ for because of the guaranteed service contract. Same wiring to the CO and everything.

Yupp,
doesn't the number of collision grow exponentially as you're approaching the physical bandwith limit of the medium

Our T1 line at work which cost at least $5000 to run (airport) out maxes at 30kb/s.

Only one computer is connected.

Something is seriously wrong with that circuit, unless you just have a fractional (part of) T1.

T1 is a full-duplex circuit. There are no such things as collisions on them. You can run them at 100% with no real noticeable degradation. 1.536 Kbs, transmit and receive.

we're paying for a T1 line

4 employees are here right now. i'm sure that none of the others are intentionally downloading.

It could be people who aren't there leaving streaming radio stations going. We had a problem with that a couple years back, I think we were on dual t1s and it was rare for me to be able to hit 50k/sec because of all the streamers (I'm in a office with ~300 people).

We couldn't block the ports, as there were lots of legit reasons people would be streaming.

It's not an issue now - I'm not sure what we have these days, but it's pretty sweet. I'll usually get about 3MB/sec uploading and often 10MB/sec+ downloading. I just did Speakeasy bandwidth tests to Atlanta and Chicago servers, and I think I broke the meter.

Just ran it here at my work, you ain't the only one breaking the meter.

DSL + T1 + failover setup =

We are in transition and that is my goal by the end of the month.....

I stand by my T1 statement, they are crap. 400$ a month for shiesty line that goes out in the rain? Screw Quest! It does not handle our needs anymore, which is why we are picking up those fiber lines.
