MY OC'ing project, review and comment please.

I am new to the OC'ing movement and have decided to try my hand at it. I have assembled an almost complete system that I think will OC nicely. Now keep in mind that I am NOT trying to create the UBER computer as I know I don't have the fastest component, but what can I say...I was on a budget.

Here are the specs. I still need to decide on PSU and OS. Please comment on general setup, reccomend PSU or OS and any other advice you might want to give (Bottleneck areas, BIOS reccomendations etc..)

The general setup is excellent (though SDRAM will cripple your performance), and you'll be able to get a fine overclock. For a PSU, I recommend an Antec 350w. Heroichi Electronics Corp (HEC) and Sparkle also make good PSUs. For an OS, I'll assume you want to use Windows, I recommend Windows 2000 Professional. It's the most stable Windows, and is compatible with most software and hardware.

By the looks of it, you aren't really upgrading much and you're going to spend a bit more than I would on not that significant on an upgrade. Going from an Athlon 950 to a 1.33Ghz and still keeping the Sdram pc-133 ram isn't going to give you that much of an improvement.

IMHO I would just save up a bit longer and then at least go to a KT266a mobo and an XP 1700+ with 256Meg ddr. You will notice a much better enhancement as well as have a machine that will last you much longer.

This is true for certain, however I already have the iwill KK266 so it's sdram for me only. As far as the XP line of processors, I know that the iwill KK266 can have the BIOS flashed to accept them (up to 1.7 I think) so that may be in the future for me too. for now my budget dictates that I forge ahead with the project using the above components. PLUS, this will give me some real world OC'ing experience for later on.

Looks good to me. I think you have made a good decision to keep the mobo. Wait until the KT33a chipset motherboards are out, then get yourself a new mobo and some DDR ram. By then a good KT266a will be cheap OR you could opt for the KT333a.

Sure you can use 2000pro for your games, but I would probably go with WinXP Home, or possibly Pro as well. XP has been found to be a good OS for games.

Enermax is a good psu and I was thinking about getting the 350Watt one myself. I found one local for less than I can buy online w/o shipping too.

Looks great. I agree that SDRAM will cripple the Athlon , but still, KK266 is a monster of an overclocker and should do great.

edit: I would truthfully, go Win XP Home because it does have the edge oin compatibility over 2000 pro.
