Hello fellas,
Well I am taking this class, Data Communications and I have to write a 6 page term paper on any topic that deals with the data comm. subject.
BUT instead of writing a paper on the same stuff the prof. has prolly read in millions of other term papers I want to do mine on something a bit different on the subject. so I ask you guys, what would be a good topic to write my paper on? I have about 8 weeks to complete this but I must have my topic in to the prof. by the end of next week.

thanks fellas

Try something interesting like pervasive computing. There are a lot of data coms issues related to that and it would be an interesting read (and fun to research).

talk about forums and how they affect society...they are a form of data communication right?

Thanks for the idea, after I posted the OP I freaked out thinking that people would think that I am in some sort of way trying to cheat...that is not the case, I just want the teacher to feel a breath of fresh air when hes done reading my paper, I am going to take as many ideas as I can and dabble in the research until I find one that strikes my chords.

again, I am not trying to cheat, I am just trying to gain some perspectives on something a bit more interesting/different that the teacher may not already know all there is to know about.

Drat. :(

<- English Major. :D

Forms of e-communication in general would be pretty easy to write about and would fill those pages nicely. You could talk about instant messaging, message boards, and community sites like myspace.

What the ****** is that supposed to mean? why would you post a link that has pitures of babies in microwaves and ****** like that you ****** lowlife.

**EDIT**
Has anybody clicked on that link, what the ******? that is so very far from the professionalism that I thought I would get from the Anandtech forums, is this the kind of treatment that one can expect from the ATOT overnight crew? whos in charge here? I think that something should be done about this post.
I may be a member here with only 490 posts, and I may not be avaeraging 7.xx posts a day, and I am not an official member of the ATOT overnight crew, but I AM very insulted, disgusted and pissed right off by that post.

Fistandantilis,

It might be novel to take as your subject the problems in dealing with hierarchical data structures.

Hierarchical relationships are a bit trickier to deal with in a database, and how to deal with them is the topic of some papers you could research.

There's a chance this might be a little bit outside the normal stuff your classmates will discuss in their papers.

The other suggestion is to write about the current-event hot topic of how we as individuals can defend against excessive accumulation of data on us, by commercial and government interests. Interesting, but maybe several classmates will pick that one.

Finally, if you do go ahead with the quantum computing topic mentioned above, then everybody writing on that always footnotes Feynman's well-known and widely published talk, which your prof. will be very familiar with.

Also, here are 2 other resources to help you too: "Is the universe a quantum computer?", and "Quantum Computing with Molecules."

Thanks, I done some digging in google and I found lots of stuff dealing with Quantum theory and stuff like that...I am going to sift through some of it and find a position that I can prove or disprove and take it from there.
thanks for all the ideas, keep em rolling.
