My next lawsuit will be against Blizzard

This article has inspired me to sue Blizzard for creating such life-ruiningly good games.

Who would you sue?

https://www.rt.com/news/326272-gamer-russia-lawsuit-fallout4/

A Siberian gamer is suing the makers of Fallout-4 after he lost his job and broke up with his wife because of the video game. He wants 500,000 roubles (US$7,000) in compensation from the company, saying he did not know the game would “become so addictive.”

The 28-year-old man from Krasnoyarsk found out about the game in an advert and subsequently downloaded it onto his computer. That was when his problems began in earnest. He only intended to play it for a couple of evenings, but instead became addicted and the next three weeks flew by.

Such was his ‘dedication’ to the game, which sees the player emerge from a bunker following a devastating nuclear holocaust in a post-apocalyptic world, that his own apocalypse unfolded right before his eyes.

He regularly skipped work, which resulted in his employers firing him. He stopped meeting up and speaking with friends, and his wife left him. His health also started to deteriorate as he was not sleeping or eating.

“If I knew that this game could have become so addictive, I would have become a lot more wary of it. I would not have bought it, or I would have left it until I was on holiday or until the New Year holidays,” a statement from the man read.

The Krasnoyarsk native now wants to sue the makers of the game Bethesda Game Studios and the Russian localization firm for 500,000 roubles ($7,000) for emotional distress.

His lawsuit is seen as something of a test case in Russia, as there has never been such a precedent. The United Legal Defense Center, the law firm representing the 28-year-old, says it wants to “see how far we can go regarding this case.”

There have been similar cases around the world though. In 2010, a US federal judge said he would listen to a case brought by a Hawaiian man, who said he became addicted to video game Lineage II.

Craig Smallwood was demanding damages from the game’s makers, saying he would not have begun playing if he had been aware “that he would become addicted to the game.”

Surprisingly, the judge sided with the plaintiff and ordered NCsoft of South Korea to pay Smallwood’s legal fees which he had accumulated over the six-month period after filing his lawsuit.

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could forget about our worldly responsibilities to devote ourselves to a video game and get compensated for it?

i watched my brother in law play that game for like 90 minutes about a month ago while we were shooting the shit, and god damn that game looks lame as shit.

I would love to know how many hours I spent playing 007 & Mario Kart 64. When multiplayer was having 4 people in the same room yelling and screaming at each other. Great times.

No kidding, I remember going over to a friends house after work one friday evening to play a few games, and then looking at the clock on the wall to find out it was 10 am the next morning.

Oh yes, mario kart 64. The perfect way and only way to drink and drive and have fun. I have my nintendo N64 still in good condition with all 4 controllers almost brand new. If i ever have more time, i would really want to make an emulator that allows me to use playstation joysticks on the n64. Because when the controllers are worn out, i can never buy new controllers anymore.

I have a friend who worked as a video game tester. He explained all the cons to that job, but there was a never-ending line of guys willing to do it.

Time didn't mean a thing at that point in my life. I would love to go back. 😎

Had a friend who dropped out of college because of Ultima Online. If your wife leaves you after 3 weeks. It wasnt going so well before.

I would join you on this. D2 -> D3. What a disappointment.

D3 has become a very good game though, if you haven't tried it recently. I've been playing since D1 and honestly wasn't all TOO disappointed initially with D3, but comparing it now to back then is like night and day. I definitely like it a lot more now.

I also played since D1 (including Hellfire 😀). Bought D3 the day it came out and played it through a bunch of patches. I would guess maybe 1-1.5 years? I don't even remember the last thing they patched when I stopped playing. I just wasn't finding the fun in it that I found in D2. There was too much changed and I found it a lot less challenging. Doing away with dueling/pvp/pk'ing was just dumb. Not sure if they ever brought that back.

They brought it back, but it sucks.

They now have good challenges through greater rifts. Also they introduced set dungeons just recently to challenge specific gear configurations.

UT2k4 was probably my biggest time sync. Didn't affect me negatively, but I'd consider suing Epic for that piece of shit, UT3

Sad. The good ole days of D2 was my retarded jacked nova sorc teleporting around like a fiend and destroying anything and everything. It became an issue when e-horn/wf came out and I'd get nailed by a floating arrow once in a while. And then they nerfed the almighty hell out of nova and she became useless. This happened a few times (frozen orb having cooldown, etc). I also miss popping people while dueling - that was fun 😀

Making the game fit a character is stupid IMO. The challenge is to make your character work, not make the 'world' to fit the character/level/build. I played a lot of HC as well, so I could also be a bit biased ... but I like the challenge. Running through a map in 30 secs is fun for a bit, but that gets old real fast. A real good buddy and myself shared D2 accounts and had mostly everything you could ever think of. We ended up selling a lot of it for cash. The game is dead to me these days 😛

i thought people were going to sue me when i played WoW

because i would stand in the fire in Auction House and play a flute for hours just to annoy them :awe:
