My Next-door Neighbor...

Has his rifle just leaning against his door.

I'm at my Mom's apartment for winter break, and the people next to here just have their gun learning outside of their door. Should I tell somebody?

It's probably not loaded, but it is still a gun. Am I overreacting by being nervous? I just don't want a kid to take it or something, since there are a bunch of kids that roam around the apartment grounds.

EDIT: I asked my mom about the neighbors, and she says they are pretty rowdy. They got the cops called on them before for fighting with the other, upstairs neighbors. My mom doesn't want to do anything about the gun because they'll know it was her...

EDIT2: It's gone now. I think he took it with him to wherever he's going.

This really isn't rare at all. People just leave shit around, no thought to what folks might do with unsecured weapons. Guns, grenades, hell even rocket launchers are just laying all over the place. My advice is to grab whatever you find, chances are that your neighbor is up to no good.

<== Just finished playing Wolfenstein 2009 for the first time, good game.

What part of Louisiana?

Does it matter? It's all shitty.

Right now I'm in Slidell (across the lake from New Orleans), but I've lived in New Orleans, Mandeville, and Baton Rouge, and visited pretty much all major cities.

New Orleans is fun, but I wouldn't want to live there. I agree that the whole state is shitty, worthless, and a giant leach on the rest of the country. We'd be better off if the so called "gulf states" (LA, MS, AL) just slid off into the Gulf of Mexico.

Its a felony to leave a gun within grabbing distance of a child. Any child, not just your kid in your house with your gun.

If the OP still didn't call the cops or bang on the neighbors door, point to the gun and say "Um, DUH?>???", then the OP is truly nutless.

I would love to live in Covington, Mandeville, or Madisonville.

You're in Louisiana, and something like this bothers you?

Hell, Northwest Florida for all of junior high and high school pretty much makes me blind to rifles, gun racks, deer strapped across the hood, Rebel flags, and discarded Budweiser containers littering the property around convenience stores.

Call the cops. It'll be interesting to see how (if) they respond.

I am almost positive theres a federal law that has something to do with it.
I know Virginia is especially tough on such things as well.

I'm not aware of any federal law. You realize that would require the FBI or ATF to arrest and charge someone, right?

Anyway, I remember when the safe storage laws first started passing in states during the 1990s. Gun nuts cried, "You can't tell me what to do in MY castle!"

To the OP about the gun: You seem like a real pansy. Knock on the door with the gun in your hands, assume the stance of dominance, and speak your mind.

We'd also be better off if California slid off into the ocean, the same with the entire north-east region including NYC. Hell, I say the fuck with all coastal regions of the USA. Let it all fall into the ocean leaving only the bible belt behind. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I grew up in Louisiana (Baton Rouge area), and now live close to NYC. The people in this part of the country are rude, and all have that "me first" mentality. How anyone could prefer this cold-climate rat-race zoo of an area to easy living and the best food in the country baffles me.

You should probably mind your own business and stop perpetuating the nanny-state attitude or knock on the dude's door and let him know he left his shit outside.

What a missed opportunity!

I would have take a shit on his gun. Like a really wet, nasty, diarrhea one.
