I'd reccomend the Athlon 64 3200+ newcastle core over the clawhammer that you have picked out. It is the same chip except that it has 512K L2 cache instead of 1MB. To make up for this the clock speed is 2.2 rather than 2.0. Benchmarks show that the extra 200 mhz outweighs the loss of cache and this chip slightly outperforms the 1MB model (clawhammer).

also, if ur on a tight budget, there isnt really a big performance difference between the 3000+ and the 3200+. So you could save some money there.

Agreed, the newcastle is the better of the two on the 3000+ as well, the extra mhz helps more than the cache.

let me know how that hsf is when u get, im looking for a quiet solution as well 🙂

I would probably do something different as far as the hard drive is concerned... Either get the Raptor 74G and a cheap Samsung 160GB for storage, or at least pay another $10 to get the faster Hitachi 250G.

Also, the half-aluminum version of that heatsink cools just as well (actually a tiny bit better), costs less, and weighs much less. The only reason to get the all-copper version is if you think it looks better through the window. If you do, you're going to have to be careful using a 1.7 pound heatsink.

I thought pure copper was better.. If anyone can confirm this it would be greatly appreciated since im looking at that very heatsink for my next rig..
