My next car

w/ a plastic interior, probably 3400lbs or more, midrange brakes, and the handling of a crown vic.

I'll be right behind ya

eh, only way I'll be riding in one of those is in the backseat.

BTW, I always figured with the size of those cars they would have huge backseats, but NOOO with the huge cage they put in them there's barely enough room for your feet, sideways.

I agree the dude does not appreciate a muscle car 😉 I wish I had an original classic GTO.

umm...don't really want to make this a competition, but

I'm just saying sure the car has a good amount of power (340hp is pretty nice no matter how you slice it), but with the weight that car will be at I just don't think it would be very fun to drive. I'm thinking that it will have a tendancy to either understeer (not enough grip to compensate for the car's momentum), or suddenly oversteer (I HOPE it's RWD, but with probably 75% of it's weight up front it's gonna be very tail happy). Also you have to figure that with all that momentum it's gonna kill it's mediocre brakes (what Pontiacs have good brakes from the factory?) that will probably fade if you use them at all, and probably even warp in a few years of heavy use. Also it just seems that every new GM has more and more plastic on it, NOT very attractive in my opinon.

Scootin159, you must not know much about the new GTO.

It's hardly Pontiac. It's actually an imported Holden Monaro that has been rebadged under Pontiac.

The original muscle cars were awesome and I really respect them (although they are too big for me personally, but that's just personal taste). What really made them attractive is how they were just raw horsepower & torque. The interors weren't far above that of a racecar (but what they did have was real nice), they were very rustic (so simple under the hood you could normally stand in the engine bay to work on them). They wouldn't make very nice daily drivers, but they would be great for either a cruise through the town and straightline full-throttle acceleration (i.e. Drag racing).

...I know of a '72 Chevelle SS396(actually a 427..but ..shhhh...😉) 4sp ..driven since 1984 by same guy...he drove last summer back and forth to work(10 miles each way). So that doesn't wash.

Man, does anyone else think it a travesty to slap a classic name on a car that was previously never offered here? I mean, a GTO revival would require a car built from scratch IMO, not just a rebadged Holden :-/

You said that it'll be "3400lbs or more"...that's not THAT heavy. Look at the new Mustang Cobra, 390HP and it rings in around 3500lbs... Hell even a Viper weighs in around 3200lbs if I remember correctly...

1646kg (manual) = 3628lbs; guessed that one right
I hope that traction control can be disabled if they're going for the muscle car crown (who love burnouts)
Engine looks pretty nice
Interior is nice on that one, but don't see it being the same on the Pontiac (full leather dash?)
Exterior doesn't look bad, but the car is HUGE, but once again that's just my personal preference. Liking the headlights/front facia area though. Rear quarter kills it for me though.

Both of which weigh wayy too much. 2500 is more of a # to shoot for, even that is a bit much.

What? The S2000, which is one of the most stripped down(sports) cars you can buy in the US weighs in at 2800 pounds. The Porche Boxter S weighs in at 2900 and change.

If you want something lighter, go buy a kit car.

Both of which could weigh 200lbs less if you made them coupes. Also why do we still have steel body panels? Wouldn't aluminum be just as strong and save us a couple hundred pounds over the car?

Anyways 2500lbs may be a bit low, but 2700 is very obtainable. I've owned 3 cars myself that weighed in around this range.

2500 is fine if you're building a McLaren F1 or a Toyota MR2

cmon man, be realistic

The MR2 is just about the right 🙂. Why would anyone need a car bigger than that?

I still like the thought of the revival of the GTO name it doesn't bother me that it is a rebdged holden...as long as the car has balls is all I car about 😉

Cause not everyone wants to drive a 2 seater 4 cyl car 😕 You don't seriously think cars that light are the norm do you?
