My next car is going to be a Kia RIO

The new Kias look great... Clean edgy styling. Much better than the organic fish crap that Hyundai, Mazda, and Subaru are putting out.

The start/stop tech scares me. Just sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen. Either a stall in a busy intersection or an unintended shutdown. Who knows what kind of quirky programming gremlins could pop up.

I'm sure the non-hybrid versions of auto-stop will be a little different, but after having auto-stop for the last 3 years in my Insight, it's hard to imagine things without it.

The Insight's implementation is flawless, and actually has advantages like being able to re-start after a stall seamlessly.

I enjoyed the Optima that I had for a rental last year. PRetty solid car aside from the constantly-shifting transmission. New Rio looks sharp.

my friend had 2 different Kia's, a sonata and i forgot the other, both turned out to be his most expensive nightmares. Another guy i work with has a kia sportage? i think its called, blown head gasket just 3 weeks after warranty.
Kia's quality is more than questionable everywhere you look.

Bingo, this is the exact problem you'll be facing. Not to mention the warranty KIA has is crap and they will try to weasle out of doing anything that is supposed to be covered by it. I lose at least a quart a month of oil/month, but that is normal by KIA standards. No leaks, no smoke... I guess I have a special car that has magically disappearing oil.

Don't forget, you better replace that timing belt at 60,000 since the manual barely mentions it. Covered under warranty if it breaks? I don't think so... KIA will explain it was covered in the manual and inform you it will be $2-3000 for a replacement motor.

Want to change your spark plugs? Well, you had better be extremely gentle when removing the plastic shield over the valve cover. Whenever the nuts/bolts heat up from the engine, they virtually twist off if torqued beyond finger tight.

Want to roll your front windows down? Sorry, the automatic window roller motor cables like to snap before 100,000 miles. Too bad that's not covered under the 100,000 mile warranty. Good thing I have a four door car so I can roll the rear two windows down. Drive through ordering is interesting.

Make sure you get a dash mat cause the cheap Korean glue they use to attach your dash to whatever tends to lose it's tackiness after a while. Now the dash creaks and groans.

Steer clear of Kia's

I had a rental 2011 Sonata this week, I no longer like it after putting like 1200 miles on it in a week. The transmission blows chunks going up and down grades, constantly shifts between 4-5-6. I just threw it into manual and kept it into high gear the whole time.

Sonata != Kia.

i like that new rio. that car needed an update badly, old one was reliable as shit but looked terrible and the inside was aveo-quality.

too bad 95% of kia dealers are horrible shams that you don't want to do business with. hopefully they make a version with a hyundai badge, like they did with the forte (new elantra).

Kia and Hyundai dealers in the Bay Area are bad. They make me sad and want to kill kittens.

around here, most of the hyundai dealers are 'normal' car dealers, but any other kia dealers have been edged out by 'carnival kia,' who has three locations and pretty much will not sell to you if you have good credit and/or know what you want/want to haggle price/ect. their sole market is poor people with bad credit who they can sell cars at terrible prices to and finance them at ridiculous interest rates.

doesn't look bad...but after my experience with a Kia Forte rental (HORRIBLE handling), this thing would really have to impress me on the test drive for me to even consider.

Torsion bar rear suspension setup 🙁

All the disadvantages of a cheap RWD setup with none of the fun. Nissan Sentra is the same, it's nasty.
