Reminds me of the old sony CDX-C90. No features, but loaded with audiophile grade equipment/circruity/electronics.

I was under the impression that the OP was simply more of a "casual listener" and not an audiophile type. Of course, I don't know him personally - I may be wrong. That unit is obviously a "no-frills" HU designed to provide incredible SQ. But if that HU is being connected to a standard grade amp and factory speakers (again, I'm assuming), there would be almost no detectable difference between that one and another one that would cost the same, but have many more useful features - things that would be quite useful if the car is a daily driver.

For example, if the car were to be parked overnight in a shady neighborhood. A deck with more emphasis on features and less on SQ would have a detachable face, whereas that one does not.

However, if the deck is to be connected to an audiophile grade amp and awesome speakers, then by all means go for it. No sense in having components like that running off of a deck with lots of features, but only average SQ.

I fail to see why spending extra $ for an "audiophile grade" headunit is worth it in a car. Unless you listen to your system in the driveway with the engine off, the engine/transmission/wind noise will drown out all those little nuances you'll allegedly be picking up.

Now this is a slick headunit!

The controls border on unusable. The buttons are tiny and poorly marked. I'd be afraid to try and switch tracks while on the road. In terms of audio quality, it might be good bang for the buck, but the design, in addition to the bling-bling "steal me" brushed aluminum finish, is simply horrendous. I don't mind simple controls, but the buttons have to be big enough that I can operate them quickly and without looking at them.
