I built one using said motherboard a little over a year ago for some friends. They used to leave it on just about 24/7 for 8 months. They went on vacation and when came home tried to power it up. Well same thing cpu fan would spin but nothing else. I shipped it back and bought an Asus instead. I tried the battery in the board a lot of people said they were having problems with those but didn't help mine. Sounds like you better take the drive out and put on another machine to get your files that you need.

You put 50+ hours into a file for class and you didn't make other copies? Well anyways your CPU is definatly fried, i bet your mobo is fried (btw is your or your GF's comp on a new UPS/surge protector? (less than 3/y old)) And i bet your PSU is fried as well. Find those CC's, good thing new egg has fast shipping 😛!

Try and see if a buddy will let you put your HD in his machine and burn your file to CD or something.

Recently I had a ECS K7AMA mobo do very similar things all my other components worked though so I was pretty sure it was the motherboard. It would turn on all fans but no video, and it wouldn't turn off for some reason only on. Anyway I ended up replacing it with a newer Albatron board and everything was fine, but be carefull as with a new motherboard my hard drive didnt like it so I had to format the drive and lost everything on it.

well, i finally just boned out the money for a shuttle board and a P4 3.0GHZ... it works now, sucks i had to end up spending that kind of money though, Thanks for the help everyone
