My Newegg Experience

so a couple months ago i ordered a Logitech MX518 (not around any big holidays), i remember it took like 2-3 days to be processed and shipped (another 3 days). i was kind of disappointed on Newegg about that, but not enough that it pissed me off or discouraged to shop at Newegg again.

well last night i posted a review bc i just ordered something online and i registered with resellerratings.com and figured i should leave feedback on all the online retailers i've bought stuff from. i left a good review on Newegg.com but i did comment on the slow processing + shipping on my mouse and i guess it caught their attention.

i got a phone call today and i was like wtf? and i'm like wow, that's what i call customer loyalty. i was offered X and Free Shipping & gauranteed to arrive on time.

oh well i just wanted to share that simple story, small things go a long way.

Many of the online retailers are tracking individual comments on resellerratings.com and offering bribes to improve the ratings.

In my case, I bought several items from Monarch Computers and had a very good experience. They called me a few days later and said if I entered a good rating they would send me gifts. I did and then they sent the gifts (t-shirt and hat).

just a t-shirt and hat, who wants that :p haha, not bad tho, but not something i'd sport ;)

i think Monarch is a lil pricey, i only like Newegg and ZipZoomFly as of now

Gotta remember, standard processing takes 2-3 days, says so on their site in multiple places, can't really complain if that's how long it takes. Plus, what's the point of processing it quickly for free if they can charge $3 for it ;)

That's a big no-no, according to ResellerRatings policy (or at least that's how I read it):

Q: Can I offer a customer goods, services, or monies, to alter a negative review to a positive review or to remove their review?

A: No, you may not do this. While we would never stand in the way of a merchant working to resolve customer complaints and we encourage you to correct any errors and to satisfy your customers whenever possible, you may not request that a customer alter or remove their review in exchange for monetary consideration of any kind. Customers are always able to edit their reviews at any time should they choose to do so. If this policy is violated, some possible actions include: posting your solicitations to your company's reviews page, or revoking any or all features of your complimentary ResellerRatings merchant account.

I'm not sure I'd consider useless trinkets monetary consideration, but it's funny that they already thought of this and prohibited it!

Did Newegg specifically state that they would like the customer in question to alter the review?

Hey Fellow AnandTech Forum Members,

As most of you may know, about 90% of orders placed on our website are shipped the same day that they are submitted. However, all orders placed on our website are also subject to a 1-2 business day processing time. We request this additional "grace period" simply because of the volume of orders we receive each day. And also, if any additional verification is needed this will allow us time to contact the customer for further information. Of course, we will always work diligently to process as many orders possible in a single day.

We always work hard to provide the best possible customer service experience available. We understand that no one company is perfect. Companies will always be prone to mistakes. Our promise is, that we will always be here to serve our customers. Whatever the issue may be we will do our best to fix it (within reason of course).

Thanks everyone for taking the time to post your informative comments and for taking the time to read ours. If anyone needs assistance with an order, has questions, suggestions, etc. Please feel free to PM myself and I will be more than happy to provide my services.

If what you say in your review is completely true, then go for it...

well if you bought it during a holiday, i can only assume that it will take longer due to the higher demands...

I bought a video card for my little brother on newegg. He did the ordering and I supplied the money.
He talked to a newegg rep and they told him that his dell had an AGP port and the car he wanted would be fine.

So we get it a few days later, pop open the case and find out there is no AGP, only PCI. So I let it sit for a few weeks because I'm busy, in the meantime I go out and get him a PCI based geforce, so the kid is happy.
I call up newegg and explain the story to get an RMA and to waive the restocking fee. After 2 minutes on hold the guy comes back, says here is your RMA number and the email is on its way, no restocking fee.

Newegg gets a  from me.

weird, unless you ordered on a saturday or friday night, it shouldn't have taken that long.
i think every time i ordered it was shipped the next day.

Usually there is a time when you can order that it will be processed on the same day (however not promised, but almost regularly does).

Where I work, when I place an order before 3PM it will be processed and shipped out the next day. However after 3PM, it's processed the next day.

I have no doubt that some resellers would do that... but i don't think this is the case here. Did they ask for a good review? And would they have done the same thing if you had emailed them a complaint or comment?
