Hi,

installed my new WD Raptor 10k rpm drive.

installled S.M.A.R.T. drive reliability test software...
it is now 3/4 in the performance line. max is normal, now is 3/4 to Degraded.

how can i make it faster?
what actually do i have to set to have max performance from this drive?

thanks

one for reliability and one for performance

The performance will most likely be derived from the health of the disk. If it's developing errors, then performance, according to the software, will be degraded.

i dont know if this sounds correct...

I use sisoftware sandra lite 2005 to test my wd raptor drive.

under System FIle benchmark, my current drive scores 44MB/s for drive index

others like Sata 150 4xRAID has 144mb/s

Good call.
SiSoft Sandra gives rather different performance figures to HDTach.

If you're worried, post a screenshot of the SMART program for me to have a look at 🙂

i don't knwo if it is true that...

right now my new drive just hanging outside of my case, i just use some books to give it some support to stand..

i dropped it once from 15cm high.
the drive kept running though.. but i don't know if this drop did make some bad sectors.. so the performance hit... aiya ya ya..

Can't compare 4x raid-0 setup drive to a single drive. 44mb/s is about right. HDtach quick bench for my 36gb.

random access 9.1ms
cpu utilization 10%
average read 49.7mb/s
burst speed 98.6mb/s

80GB Maxtor in a cheap Dell 2400

Random access time 14.8ms
Burst 84.2MB/s
Min 26.8MB/S
Max 65.7MB/s
Avg 49.1MB/s

Hitachi SA80 SATA 7200RPM 250gb

Random Access: 11.9ms
CPU Utilization: 2% (+/-2%)
Average read:50.4 MB/s

Burst: 123.5 MB/s (short of the SATA 150 comparison and slightly slower in the ATA UltraDMA6 comparision on the program)

looks normal I figure

hmm, it just gives me some bad feeling that the drive is decreasing its performance and reliablility very soon.

What kind of sata controller is your drive on? Cause mines on a via controller and can't even hit a 100mb/s burst. While my IDE drive does. Access time is faster though.
