For the price of a PRS I'd go custom shop, but what I want, nobody makes, so that'd be my only option anyway.

A friend of a friend has a friend :)) ) who is making him a guitar for a wedding gift. The guy showed me pictures of the work in progress. You really gotta appreciate the artisanship of a handmade guitar. Bending and carving the wood, inlay, binding, fretwork, this guy did every step by hand, and it looked beautiful. I'd love to be able to do that.

The difference is that I could never afford this in cash, so I have to trade for what's available with my PRS friend. If I spent the exact retail on this, I'd have one hell of a custom shop guitar. The waiting list at PRS is 15 months or so though and I want to play now :p

I figure I'm young, I will be able to afford these on my own in two years or so and this one caught my eye for it's craftsmanship and tone. Def agree on the custom shop though, that's where I'll be headed when I can.

We need an ATOT guitar alliance for the people that actually get some tail.

Wait, so the fretboard is curved in between each fret?

You've never heard of scalloped frets? It's a guitar derivitive of this:

lute

and was abused by guys like these two:

blackmore

fatass

It's basically like playing on really high frets and removes some of the friction between your finger and the wood during aggressive playing and bending. You can really dig into the strings this way but I think for certain things like legato runs it can make playing difficult. I think it makes bending way more interesting though.

Do you get good ststain with that brige?

Also, general question to everyone----Who uses their termolo arm a lot. Personally, I don't really use it much.

Beautiful. PRS makes some of the nicest looking guitars.

I'm shopping right now but won't end up with something that nice.

Sustain is pretty good. Neck through body guitars definitely have more sustain but that Ibanez in particular has about as much sustain as a floated tremolo USA Strat which isn't bad at all. Vibrato definitely helps : )

As for your Q on trems, I don't always go obnoxious on it but I use it liberally, subtly.

You have great technique. Your demos are very nice, do you play locally or anything?

jC

Thanks man. I used to but playing with people is always a big frustration as I have to *completely* dumb down the music and arrangements since in NYC, people don't like that kind of sh*t. Hell even when it's time to play a solo, I'm "not allowed" to do even 80% of what I want to do on guitar. They're all punk rockers who are totally against a more progressive style of music, which I like. Then again, there are the jazz players who are way beyond what I can touch so there's a huge gap in the local music scene. Ugh! Basically I play and record what I like doing and then if I find someone that likes that kind of stuff, we just jam at a studio for fun.

No definitely not. I like very clear sounding amps, not a mess of boom and fuzz.

I guess this may be true if you don't know how to properly use the amplifier.. if you take the time to read the instruction manual, the knobs are completely different as far as what they do. It's not like a marshall that you just scoop the mids out of and blast the treble and bass. You have to work with each knob until you get the perfect tones. I've owned a Fender Twin and two Riveras, both of which have amazing clean sounds, and this amp's clean channel rivals them. And as far as boom, this amp does have a lot of bass response, but there are these magical controls that you can use to turn that down ;)

I got this for the second channel vintage recto tones that I haven't been able to reproduce. The 3rd channel is a gain monster for heavy metal. I'm literally amazed that you can write their products off and you haven't really spent the time to tweak.

Take 10 minutes with the manual and go play one again, I'm sure you'll change your mind. Unless you want to just reply with "this amp is mushy and sounds like crap" argument that most 15 year olds who can only play nirvana like to post about on the internet

Well I CAN play some Nirvana. Can you? I bet not! The Mesas just have this 'papery' feel that I can't stand. No 'chime.'
