Yeah, the battlax rear and battlewing front are terrible for offroad. The bike is my sole commuter (well, it and the GS) but I do like to go up Palomar mountain occasionally or hit some back roads. Dirt and gravel (no sand or mud) would be fun I'm sure, but I don't know of any dirt roads or trails to ride on around here. Would like to though.

Funny, I was riding out West Lilac last summer by myself and I made a turn on a road I thought would take me toward Palomar so I'm riding along for a few miles when the pavement ended and it was just twisty downhill dirt road. Nothing too tight or steep so I just kept on riding. I eventually came out right by the Pala Casino and went on to Palomar Mountain.

I've hit Palomar Mountain about half a dozen times. It can get kind of crowded on the weekends but it's a great place to test your abilities even if you don't go too crazy.

Do live in the area?

Yeah, Vista moving to San Marcos next week. I've been up Palomar mountain twice since I got the GS500, but I was holding up everyone behind me, haha. I was pushing the GS as hard as I could but was nervous on all the corners. I still had a (nervous) blast, gives real meaning to "don't look over the edge".

Haha, no, that's the last thing you want to do on a motorcycle! Target fixation frequently leads to the bike going right toward what you're looking at.

I'm in Oceanside on the border of Vista. Maybe I'll see you around sometime.

Why did you sell it?

Just didn't ride much anymore and it was getting uncomfortable riding the bike with the aggressive riding position of the superbikes. Next bike is definitely going to be a vstrom, drz, kl 650.
