My new tires are....well....so much fun

At the track my Miata probably does 0.9-1.0Gs laterally. The car in my avatar would do 1.4-1.6Gs laterally.

Buddy of mine gets 500-600 miles on his. All from auto-x :awe:

Hehe, you know turning is different than lateral acceleration for g's right? Purpose built racers have trouble pulling 1.7 to 1.8.

Should it concern me that you guys are driving fast enough to squeel tires on dry pavement? I take corners pretty damn fast in my little tiny car and the tires never squeal. I'm not sure if I should ask how fast you guys are driving around corners.
Wait yes I will. How fast are you guys driving around corners?

I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you.

Erm... what? How are lateral Gs not a way to measure how hard a car can turn steady-state?

And yes, I know that purpose built racers have a tough time pulling 1.7-1.8 without aero elements designed to increase down force. The FSAE car in my avatar is a purpose built-and-designed from scratch racer.

I recently installed a set of Ecsta XS Kuhmos on my Miata. I thought they were terrible until I realized they were set at 45 psi D:. Now I have them down around 35 psi and they are a much better behaving tire 🙂

Just got my first set of "summer" tires. BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2. I was initially going to get a set of Conti ExtremeContacts, but they were $250 more per set locally (and I needed them installed today).

I was going to get those. They were my first choice until I saw the deal on my current tires. I love the tread pattern on the KDW2. I do hear, however, from every person that has owned them that they are extremely loud.

well, shit. :awe: i've got about 1500miles on them so far and they seem to be holding up ok. i only expected 1 summer, with a few autox thrown in, so I won't be too sad if I don't get more.
