How long did it sit in customs?
 
My R50e stayed about one week in customes and UPS wasn't able to do SH!T about it I called them a gazillion time but they told me they can't do a thing about it.
 
I think it has somthign to do with UPS using a poor broker, it seems that everyone who shipped DHL got theirs within 5 days of ship date.
 
My package has cleared the broker and is now being held by customs. I called UPS and they claim the Lenovo has not shipped the propper documentation with the shipment and it will be another week.

FSCK UPS they told me the same thing about my R50e 3 months ago all excuses.
 
Well I finally got my hands on it, and let me say, this is one fantastic piece of hardware. It is thin and light, weighing in at about half the weight of my roomates compaq which has an identical screen size even with the 9 cell battery. I find the keybaord actually preferable to the keyboard on my desktop. I love the non glossy screen, as it produces very little glare. Little touches like the keyboard light really endear me to this laptop. As for the proformance and heat isssues many have mentioned in regards to the t43, while admitedly I have not had alot of experiance with the t42, my laptop runs both cool (as long as its not sitting on a blanket or somthing that smothers it) and quiet, not to mention extremly fast. The fan revs up to a fairly audible level briefly at startup, but then drops to a nearly inaudible level for the rest of the time I use it.....about 6 hours at the longest so far. The x300 graphics are surprisngly capable in WoWand the new civilisation game, the only 3D games I have bothered to load up to this point. Time out of hibernation is virtualy instant, by the time the I get the screen open I see the login prompt ready to go. My shipping experiance was less than optimal, stay away from UPS, but dont let that stop you from getting one of these great laptops.
 
Personally I have no problems with the fan whatsoever, but there are numerous complaints and reports on forum.thinkpads.com on the "fan noise" issue, I suggest you search there for in-depth look.

Heat: it gets warm after a while, don't think it's healthy to keep it your lap for extended periods 😀 But since winter has finally come, the heat is quite nice 🙂
 
Being an Alaskan resident, I find the little bit of heat (thinkpad owners are spoiled, tis really not that much) to be a bonus. The fan....I dont understand what eveyrone is talking about. Mine reves up occaionally when booted up....then is totaly silent fora bout 3-4 hours. If I run any longer than that it goes to a level I can hear in the library....but only if I put my head close to the keyboard.
