I'v can't set settings at all the way high. I mean I can but its laggy. I just recently bought a 7800GT and I know the graphics card can easily handle it. I don't know what is going on. Same with FEAR SP demo, its really laggy I mean its smooth at some parts but when you satrt fighting an someone its less than 1 FPS. It's so wierd. When I set BF2 settings all the way up..it takes a million years to load and after it loads it just quits. I OCed my 167Mhz RAM to 200Mhz with loosened timmings to get 1:1 with the CPU HTT.

Yep, 512MB certainly will not cut it for today's high end games, first of all, that RAM is only PC2700, and second, it is way below the minimum for high end games.... The least you should get is 1GB if you want to play BF2 on high settings, if you want to max out BF2, you will need 1.5GB.

No one else said it, so I will.

Step 1: Get 2GB RAM.

Step 2: Uninstall that crappy excuse for programming code called F.E.A.R.

yeah, i used to be one of those "oh. that 1gb stuff is BS" people, but i recently just upgraded to 1gb, and everyting is so much smoother. there arent any skips or lags at all. loading times are way faster. im still sort of unsure about the value of 2gb. i havent seen any real proof that shows its value.

512mb on 7800gt is like feeding diesel gas on ferrari...

what??? thats a horrible example. diesel fuel isnt crappy, its just for a whole other perpose. putting diesel intoa ferrari, would break it. putting 512mb into a computer wont do that.

I'd recommend 2x1GB for BF2. Go for OCZ Value/Corsair VS 2x1GB

Its not that much different than 1GB, its only a couple of applications that seem to like it, BF2 and F.E.A.R and mmorpgs seem to love 2GB, and I hear video encoding and such does too. BF2 on 2GB on all max settings and it loads way faster, I can even have azureus running in back with 0 lag, but then again, a dual-core would do same no?

If your gaming includes BF2, then I hate to rain on your 1 gig parade, but the 1 gig in my old rig just didn't cut it. That system sucked for other reasons, but just speaking of storage, it thrashed disk all the time when moving or panning the view. Right now, running nothing but IE and system tray bull like Norton, XP's working set is almost half a gig by itself. That doesn't mean it would use half of your 1 gig, but it does tell you how much memory the OS would _like_ to have.

well i could understand that...but it is a win/lose situation. Why not grab another 512 mb of ram instead?

because 512 PC2700 + 512 PC2700 is just a investment into the past.

EDIT: Maybe I'll just get Corsair Value Select PC3200 1GB and be done with it.
