My new system is freaking messed up

Okay I'm on like my 20th install of windows xp. I had it working nearly perfect except it would freeze and give me an ugly blue screen when I started playing games. Now it's having trouble finding the hard drive folder so I'm reinstalling. Hopefully this works. My 6600gt has given me nothing but trouble (except when it works great for 25 seconds or so when the game starts).

Yeah, Memtest86 is a good suggestion.

But how about some spec's on your rig OP.

YOu have a faulty piece of hardware. Stop wasting your time by reinstalling Windows. Won't help. Won't solve the problem even if you manage to get it installed and running. You mention a 'new system,' but don't list any specific parts. Best advice is to start with troubleshooting the new parts.

Faulty parts: power supply (undersized or not quality enough brand), heat issue, memory problem (memtest86) can test this for you.

I'm going out on a limb and suggesting you have a memory problem. If you are blue screening all over the palce I doubt it's a CPU overheating or a faulty PSU.

I don't know what to do. I've just built this computer: Amd 64 3400 (754) retail box, DFI Lanboy UT motherboard, patriot 1 gig dual channel ram, 200 gig ide harddrive (only seeing 130 gigs though), XfX 6600gt video card....

would linux help?

no linux woudl not help

what power supply do you have? the reson you only see 130 gigs is because you need windows xp SP1 to see more then that, read in teh OS forum to figure out that BS

RUN MEMTEST
Are your FANS RUNNING and RUNNING in the CORRECT Direction?

$10 says he has a 500 mega watt power supply that came with his case. No offense but power supplies are one of the most overlooked items in a computer lately.
