Rule # 1: Never build the new system until the games you want to play are out. When Half-Life 2 gets delayed another year, don't say I didn't warn.

I thought fx53 had both socket versions. i may be thinking of something else though or maybe a future release of some fx processor on both sockets-

I seriously doubt any game will tax my system for a long time to come... so if half life 2 still doesnt come out for another year I'm really not worried and the FX-53 939 sockets just came out
I requested that one be shipped so will see which one comes later this week. I expect to have this built around wens or thurs. Half-Life 2 would run great even on a Radeon 9800 and just my card alone offers double the performance of that card not to mention my processor is top of the line now and even though it wont be the fastest chip down a few months from now my rig will still be powerful.
If we all bought systems based on the idea that something new would be comnig out better than it then we would never buy new computers..... that doesnt make sense. I upgrade every year and a half and when I buy I buy the best available at that time and that equipment lasts me until the next upgrade.

A quick check of Newegg.com shows lots of socket 939 processors, but they generally cost a pretty penny.

The Asus SK8V you list is a socket 940 motherboard; is that compatible with a socket 939 chip?

gonna be kinda hard to benchmark it if you get your request for a 939 processor and have that 940 motherboard, eh?

Soon my AMD rig will compete with yours when I get my 6800GT. I intend to overclock the system further and do some voltmods to get the cpu up to an ideal 2.7ghz. But my system will still remain sub $2000 :).. the wonders of xtreme watercooled overclocking!

Building my system too. Just waiting on delivery of parts.

TURBO X-INFINITY Case 420W W/ WINDOW & LCD Temperature
Display

NU DDW-081 8X DVD+R/+RW + CD-R/RW DRIVE

AMD ATHLON64 3400+ Processor

Seagate 120GB 7200RPM Serial ATA 150 8MB Cache

(754-pin Socket) MSI K8T Neo FSR VIA K8T800 Chipset AGP8X
w/LAN,USB2, &Audio

1024 MB PC3200 400MHz DDR MEMORY

And of course the X800 XT PE!

All for under $1,500 after including tax and shipping.

The best thing is that its all built for me. I just need to plug in my video card and a 2nd hard drive from my other comp.

Edit: And i agree with Selso2109, when it comes to computer upgrades you can ALWAYS be waiting on the next big "thing" or "game" or prices to drop. U might as well never upgrade then =)

Why didn't you do Raid 0 or 1? That would be WAY faster than what you already have.

p.s: why isn't this posted in the Genearl Hardware forum?
