Hey folks, I was just wanting to post my new rig and get your comments as to the quality and value I've gotten.

So we begin:

1ghz T-bird
Iwill kk266
FOP38
2 x IBM DTLA 30gig 7200rpm
256megs Crucial Cas2 pc133
Leadtek GF2 GTS (32meg)
SBLive! X-Gamer
Creative 52x cdrom
Teac 12x10x32 ide CD-RW
Enlight 7237 + 300w Sparkle + 2 case fans
Teac 3.5" Floppy
OEM 104key kb
Logitech Optical Mouseman

Got all of this for just under $1000 including shipping! I am very psyched! Now is certainly a buyer's market!

What do you all think? This certainly isn't the fastest machine on the market, but it also won't be "obsolete" anytime soon, either. I think it's a great value! I'm pretty much expecting to be running perfectly stable @~1200 mhz *hopefully*.

Thanks for the comments 🙂

thats a nice system, great deal as well for under 1000 thats USD right?
have fun with that fop38, heh i jus got it and it sounds like a lawn mower, but it does cool bout 15 degrees cooler than my old hsf

Yeah, it's loud as hell, but I've already got a duron 600@1050 with one, so I'm well aware of the intensity of it's whine 🙂

It sounds like a small turbine engine, even two rooms away!

HEHE!

And yeah, it's $$USD$$.

i for half of that system for almost $700.00. i couldn't wait and bought everything local. living in hawaii, prices arent too cheap as if i were to purchase online. wish i could've waited. but im impatient like that.

yeah, wondering why u'd want that HSF...way too loud for my tastes...piece of crap in my opinion..virtually any moderately decent heatsink can cool that good w/ a 7000rpm delta fan on it..

thermaltake volcano II...cheap, pretty quiet, better performer than fop32-1

one last comment...you cd-rom is probably massive loud as well, and i can't stand creative sound cards...other than that, decent system...

Any HS with a delta 7k RPM fan on it will cause unbelievable noise.

I don't agree with your claim that it's the heatsink that is causing the loudness, nortexoid. I've even put the delta fan on my older heatsinks and, as anand, sharky, tom, and kyle I all agree: the delta 7000rpm fan is the faulty part, not the heatsink.

Also, I already have the Creative 48x cdrom drive in a different system (dual cel366's@550 on abit bp6) and it's not loud, even after 1.75 years of use 🙂

methu...what are u talking about?...

i was referring to the fan as being loud, not the heatsink (how can a heatsink be loud?)...and i was attributing the cooling performance of the fop38 to the fan (hence any decent heatsink coupled w/ that fan will give good cooling performance)...u misinterpreted it...or something

anyway, u bougtha 52x creative rom, not a 48...which is only slightly better...creative have terrible rom drives..from personal experience, and testimony...
