if you are a gamer, i say up the graphics card, that board is not sli ready so you wont be able to add another one, i say go 6800gt or ultra or an equavalent ATI card (x800xl or higher). Also, the monitor is only capable of 1280x1024 resolution, you may want to look at the dells, they are widescreen and have a higher resolution (i dont own one, but have heard great things about them, and you can get nice rebates and prob spend about the same amount of money). Looks great, you must have a shat load of money spend! :beer:
 
Yeah I'd say upgrade the card to a 6800GT or ATI equivalent. For the heatsink I would look at going with a Thermalright XP-90 instead, and change out the DVD with a NEC 3520. Other than that looks good, maybe look at a DFI board but the Epox is a solid one.

I play games. But I am not sure I would consider myself a heavy gamer. I mainly play Sports games and Racing games! But I like playing those games at the highest settings.

Also thanks for recommending things but I guess I forgot to mention I already got my hardware. I was just wondering what all you cool guys thought? 🙂 I am having a local PC Shop build it for me.

I have never built a PC before and don't want to mess anything up 🙂 lol I am more of a software kind of guy not hardware.

 
Fair enough ... but its a great learning experience. You never forget your first time !! I helped a co-workers son piece together a nice budget gamer rig, then made doubly sure that he did NOT turn it on before I got a chance to look it over. Sure enough, he had the heatsink on backwards and would have fried his new mobile Barton 2500+ in a second or two. Trust me, thats something thats easier to do than you'd think ( I did it to a 1600+) and you'll never let it happen again after that.

If you have a knowledgeable friend around, give it a shot. The hardest part for n00bs s arranging the board standoffs so you don't short anything out, and mounting the heatsink fan. Everything else is basically aesthetics, as you want a clean wiring job, not a rats nest.

YOu have to learn man, or you will never get anywhere. When I got mu 1st rig I had no clue inhell what I was doing, but I did it. NOw buliding a rig is so easy I have my daughter (8) help me out all of the time; so she can learn whats up. There is nothing to mess up. Yousimply stick the parts where they go, boot up, install drivers...that is it man. Jsut jump in. When I was into h2o cooling I was told to read and read and read..BAH!~!! I purchased the itmes and jumped in head 1st. Just do it your self man. IT is fun.

You could have saved more money by doing it yourself 😛. And I agree with what the guy above said.

Oh - and if you're a hardcore gamer you should have definately gotten a better graphics card (6800GT, 256MB)
 
Um....I'm about to construct my first build. I was just wondering I have an XP-90 Heat Sink. How does one put it on backwards? ...So I dont' make this mistake?

I'm sorry, but I don't know where everyone keeps getting this.

I'm a hardcore gamer on a 6600GT, and it works fine for now - investing in the top end with r520 and G70 right around the corner seems silly to me - I think a disposable $200ish card is the best bet right now. Considering the 6600GT is faster than last generation's fastest card, I really don't think it's a problem to go with one to id you over for 6 - 12 months.

Maybe an X800XL if you can find one cheap AR.

My daughter still has my first build, I have built so many since, it would have been good if you had built it yourself saved money and it is a great learning experience. I allways have two computers that I run here at home that are mine and I built my sons computer, allthough he plays more Sony Playstation than the computer. My other build is a DFI Ultra D with a ATI 800 pro video card. The Asus rig I use strictly for gaming.

In answer to your heatsink mounting question:

The heatsink has a raised edge on one side *like this __> |___________-----| (view from the side)

Make sure that matches the raised edge of the CPU socket, so that it fits slugly onto the CPU like below.

i agree... i'm a very hardcore gamer, and my overclcoked 9550 works awesome... i dont know when hardcore gamer became synonymous with requiring the best possible graphics and spending more money on your video card than anything else... a TRUE hardcore gamer cares more about the game than the graphics...

you will certainly not be dissapointed with the video card you have selected :thumbsup:

i think its a big conspiracy to get people to waste their money (buying top of the line video cards for no reason, getting high end ram when you're not planning on overclocking, and everyone recommendind the lanparty to EVERYONE)..

keep in mind that while your computer will be a bit faster than mine, everything in my case (including the case🙂) cost me about $500 and it plays games beautifully, and does anything else you throw at it flawlessly.

personally i would much prefer to get a $65 video card now (9550) and overclock it (they're great overclockers).. then when an upgrade is necessary.. you could probably get a 6800gt for $65 😛
