the YZF 600R is a toned down R6, meant for street riding more or less, i believe

Yeah, but the YZF 600R doesn't look nearly as sweet as the R6.

Yeah, but the YZF 600R doesn't look nearly as sweet as the R6.

i know 🙂 but for all practical purposes, the 600R is my dream bike 😀

Once, in first gear, on the freeway onramps, with no cops and no traffic in nice weather. That's about it😛

One bike that hasn't seen a mention yet (unless I missed it) is the new Triumph Daytona 675. It's a triple cylinder which means in terms of power & torque bands it's midway between a twin and four. It's got plenty of low end grunt which makes it more forgiving, for example if you've accidentally short-shifted into a corner, instead of having to slam it down a gear or lose it you can just open her up and it'll pull you through. The power comes lower down than an I4, so regular riding doesn't involve ragging the engine so much.
Nice and light too at ~160Kg.

Reviews are looking good for reliability, and a couple of friends of mine just returned from France with a couple and enjoyed the experience. The only issue is that it really is a sports bike and your natural position is very much over the front wheel. You're pretty much guaranteed a bad back and wrists within an hour or so on the motorway.

oh and zixxer: advising someone to set about their bike with a fvcking dremel days after taking it out the showroom is a *really* dumbass thing to do. Maybe advise going for a 3rd party tail-tidy instead so that the original can be replaced when it comes to selling it would be preferable?
Also, surely 'modding' your bike is a squidish thing to do, no? 😉

Pussy!😛 You're not supposed to put your weight on your wrists, you're supposed to hold yourself up with your back. And your back muscles will adjust after a few good rides. Sport bike positions are actually better for your back. When leaned over, your back acts as a spring over bumps, whereas with an upright seating position, impacts go directly up your spine.

I have an air-cooled standard that's as old as I am. Dead reliable, 50MPG, $1000 cash to buy it, $200/year to insure it. Gear is a one-time purchase; I probably spent $500 or so for a helmet, jacket, pants, gloves, and boots (granted, not motorcycle-specific boots). Of course, I'm sure the OP's bike is MUCH more fun to ride, but mine is still enjoyable, and makes a great commuter.

finally someone in here who i can agree with...

other than the boots comments...the OP needs gear, or else he'll have stubs to "walk" on...c'mon i can see your skin with your feet up, and a guy i know...well lets just say the doctor told him he woulda been better off riding naked than with the jeans on because he had to pull so much denim out of his legs...

I ride in a leather jacket and joe rocket alter ego pants every time i ride...period. Geting some speedmaster pants for when im not running an errand.
 
Yeah, my baby is a blast to ride! Put almost 50 miles on her today, which isn't alot, but considering i first rode a motorcycle yesterday i am quite pleased with that.
