Get rid of the memory that is costing you an arm and a leg through dell. Order some memory from somewhere with reasonable prices. Upgrade when you get it. Then

Going to take it to any classes or on trips or use it at work or anything like that?

Still quite possible. I lug mine around to half of my classes, and it's really not that much worse than my old 12" powerbook or tablet. Obviously it's heavier, but not so much that you'd notice.

*claps* You finally win at life. Good choice cancelling that order.

yeah I would skip the ram. Dell charges an outrageous price on ram, add it yourself. HDD may be go to 7200rpm?

Should have went for a Lenovo (IBM). The T60 is great.

But this laptop looks great too.

Going to blow the Acer away.

Fail why you wanna spend that much on a desktop replacement. No room? Get an SFF shuttle or something. You can put together like an a64 3800 dual core with a 2005fpw or other 20-21" lcd and 7800gt for like 1500.

600 A64 3800 dual core and shuttle barebone
300 7800GT
100 160-300gb hd
100 1gb of memory
400 2005fpw

I'm sure you can find better prices on stuff, especially if you grab like a used shuttle off forsale here. You can probably get a 7800gtx for 300 used. That brings the total down like 200.

Then get yourself like a 600m or 500m for another 700 and you'll be in a much better position.

Why do you insist on buying 2GB from the OEM?

Trust me it's cheaper and easy to upgrade if you buy elsewhere.

I used to lug around an Inspiron 8000 through airports and crap. It gets tiring after a while and you really appreciate a thinner, lighter book.

he should atleast spend the money to upgrade to 1 stick of 1GB 677 mhz memory so he can do dual channel upgrade to 2GB.

Add to me list of folks who have had problems with ASUS laptops...they look better but I don't think they are actually better than dells.
