LOL, yeah, that sound like Sony alright. 1000W RMS, freakin' hilarious!Originally posted by: PurdueRy
As long as your happy...but whenever I see advertising like this:
1000W RMS Rating (1KHz,<10%THD)
I run away...

A way to be able to rate it much higher than it should be rated. Also they only rate at 1 frequency where reliable ratings will be 20Hz-20KHz

But dud3z think about how l33t that 1KHz tone will be. 1000W of10% distorted 1KHz tone is hotness.

QFT. I started out with a Sony STR-G3 receiver and I thought it was pretty good. Then I upgraded to my Harmon Kardon and now I know how much I was missing.

Wouldn't 10% still be .10?

You are still missing something. It's spelled HARMAN KARDON please get it right next time! hehe.
Harman Audio Outlet
Check out those new Infinity speakers there, the Cascade line, those look wild! They are still using the same tweeter as in my Interlude series, too.
Harman Audio Ebay Store
I'm still happy with my many varied Interlude series and H/K receivers in my 2 HT rooms for the time being. I might upgrade to a new H/K receiver when they support HDMI 1.3 and add support in their receivers for HD audio modes. Still waiting for that.
The thing I also noticed was 3 ohms impedance on the Sony speakers. Which would explain the wacky receiver power ratings. 1000W or 143w x 5 + 285w (1KHz, 10% THD) would be like 60w x 5 in 8 ohms, like most normal manufacturers rate receivers and amps. But then they can't advertise 1000 WATTS on the box, which it appears is all they were really trying to achieve with that deceptive receiver power number. Which is a good example of why I won't buy a Sony product.
That means my main H/K receiver at 120w x 7 at 8 ohms would be over 300w x 7 at 3 ohms! LOL! And most HT receivers would eventually burn up at that low of an ohm load driven continuously. So I think those speakers and receiver components are more closely related electronically to a car stereo sound system and speakers. Which is how they can keep the price so low for that package deal.
You could always possibly upgrade that anemic Sony sub for a deep 20k bass sub woofer, if you ever feel the need to. As long as it has some sort of standard RCA sub connector on it, that is. But if it's getting its sub signal and power from the receiver using a proprietary Sony cable then you are screwed on a sub upgrade later, unless the receivers got a regular output for one on it. A little something to consider if you might want to upgrade that system later.
