I have an ethernet network running through the house, so their are ethernet ports in every room. I just set up my 4 port linksys router and cable modem in the basement so their should be cable interent running to every room. I plugged my main computer into the ethernet port in the wall by it and it worked fine and the internet works great. But my laptop upstairs is not getting internet and the router is not showing that the laptop is connected.
The laptop is a dell inspiron 4000.
On the laptop, when i go into network connections there is just one called "local area connection 2" and it says the ethernet card is called "WAN Network Driver". It says its connected, but the weird thing is that even when i unplug the laptop from the cat5 cord, it still says connected. So something is funky with the card, or maybe the card is not showing up at all, and the "wan network driver" is something else. When i go to "local area connection 2" it says virtual private address and has some ip which is not the router, this is what my other computer does when it cant establish a connection with the cable internet. Why is their no "local area connection 1"? Can anyone help me out?
